Free Music Notes for ParisFree Music Review: THE LAST THING I EXPECTED: THIS CD IS VERY GOOD!! Hit: 5 Stars
Yup, it's true, I am often a music snob. But according to whom?
Me. I can only judge what's good to me...not to you.
Just like so many of us peeps, we are conditioned without even
knowing it. Given what we've gleaned from the media about
Paris, we will likely view her as "this rich chick that is about
as thin of character as a blade of grass, and vapid to the core."
The media stuff gets under our skin and does have an effect upon
how we see and feel about various people and subject matter. It's
manipulation on a grand scale. So, I have to try, to work against
the pull toward judging, in this case, Paris, so I can really
hear what I'm hearing rather than having it filtered. Well...
guess what? I didn't even have to try to like this record. YES!
It's decidely POPPY, which i generally have hated and hate because music has gotten to easy in a way. to fast and streamlined. With interchangable people, with more or less
interchangeable voices. But, it does come down to the songs!
Are they structured well, written well! Thats a key that can be hard to find, despite the stature of the artist. However, shock of all shocks to me, I find just about all the tunes on Paris's
debut cd, are REALLY..albeit, in my opinion, VERY WELL written! The sounds, the production values are superior as well. The cool thing about the songs is that yes it starts with POP, but then smoothly, seemlessly, merges into a pastiche of genre's, making it in my opinion one of the BEST POP CD's to come along, in a long time. And what makes it even more wonderful, is that it isn't a "ususal suspect." If Gwen Stefani(whom Paris reminds me of just a liiihhtle bit on this disc), put this CD out, I just bet it would get a great rating, because we are all gonna be open minded about Gwen. So, isnt it just a kick in the crotch that it IS PARIS! I am SO looking forward to listening to this CD very soon, and then again, and again. It's only begun to grow on me. AND PARIS??? Congratulations girl! SERIOUSLY!
Free Music Review: Give it a chance! Hit: 5 Stars
Ok so I was like a lot of folks out there thinking to myself, "hmm Paris Hilton singing? No way!" But that's what I had thought about Lindsay Lohan's "Speak" album too. I decided to give Paris a chance. I'm so glad I did! This whole album is filled with funky beats and catchy songs! I will review each song for you to give you an idea of how good this album really is!
01. Turn it up - I can picture this song at a club, people dancing and having a good time. It's got a slight hip-hop beat and very catchy. 5/5
02. Fightin' Over Me - One of those songs you and you're girlfriends can listen to while guy watching. It's fun and very hip-hop. 5/5
03. Stars Are Blind - This song is a bit more mellow but still very fun. You can listen to it while you're driving down by the beach with your loved one. If you listen closely it's got a deep meaning about a girl who wants a guy to give her a chance with him. 5/5
04. I want you - This song takes me back a little into the disco era. It's very fun! You can play it while you're exercising or just dancing in your living room! 5/5
05. Jealousy - This song is a bit slow and not so much fun. It's about Paris' broken friendship with her long time pal Nicole Richie. It'll remind you of lost friendships. It's a little sad. 4/5
06. Heartbeat - This one is just a beautiful song! Play it while you're lying next to the one you love. The words are so pretty and Paris sounds so angelic singing it! It's my favorite track. 5/5
07. Nothing in this world - Another fun and catchy tune. Very danceable! 4/5
08. Screwed - This is just a fun song no doubt. Danceable, catchy and funny too. 4/5
09. Not leaving without you - This is my least fav track but it has some potential. 3/5
10. Turn you on - This one is off the hook! Hip-hop groove and very fun to dance to! 5/5
11. Do Ya Think I'm Sexy - One of the best remakes ever! Disco is back! 5/5
Free Music Review: Paris is here to stay...new album coming soon!! Hit: 5 Stars
So there has been alot of negative media coverage of Paris lately. She's a beautiful, lucky, talented girl but she's only human & she makes mistakes & she learns just like anyone. There's no denying that Paris has a distinctive and very clear insight into her music & what she wanted this album to be. Not only did she work with some great producers but these people were also close friends of hers. Her songwriting skills are really good and that may surprise alot of people. She cowrote alot of the songs here & I love that because she's not just putting her name on songs she didn't have any creative input in & releasing it as HER music. She actually took time for over a year to put her all into this album & though it's not a masterpiece, it's a great pop album. There are the great club tracks like Turn It Up & Turn You On. The fun pop numbers like I Want You, Jealousy & Nothing In This World (the video for Nothing In This World is amazing). Plus there's a really great ballad thrown in with some really touching lyrics in Heartbeat. Paris officially stated over the past couple of weeks that she is once again back in the studio with Scott Storch, a producer for this album and a close friend of hers, working on her 2nd album which will be out late 2007/early 2008. Her & Scott have both said that she is working twice as hard on her new album. Plus she just started production on a new musical thriller that will be in theaters...I can't wait to hear the new album & see her new movie & all of her other projects. Paris is so underrated. She's really talented but it seems only a few of us are lucky enough to see it. This album was called a flop but it sold 600,000 in the US & more worldwide so it was hardly a failure. Stars Are Blind did great on the charts & the dance charts & Nothing In This World reached the top 5 of the VH1 Music Video Countdown. Most bands would kill to sell that much or have that kind of success. She will continue to have success. Go Paris!!!
Free Music Review: If it was someone else Hit: 5 Stars
We all know that this easily could have been sung by Gwen Stephani and everyone would have given it 4 stars or more. The second I heard on the radio that Paris Hilton's new song would be coming on next I laughed and felt pity for the girl. Then it came on and when it was done I gave a different laugh and gave her a mental high five. Everyone thought she would bomb it, but she slapped us back and showed she could get us to groove to her music.
I read an interview where some DJs tried out her music in some clubs and made sure not say who was singing the song. Well the people loved it and were all asking who had just sung the songs. Even Paris said she knew that if people knew it was her they would be like "ugh."
For the person that said not to worry about another because her record sales were to low. That is FALSE!!!! I looked on news how well her cds were selling. I looked at the billboards her cd has already gotten #1 on the Dance charts. On the European Billboards she is doing even better then in the U.S., her single and her album sales are in the top ten. Yes that means beating Jessica Simpson and Christina and Beyonce in most cases.
I don't think that is the #1 album of all time, and I am not some fanatic fan that thinks she can sing better then Christina Aguillera. But you know I don't listen to every cd preparing to compare it to some of the best voices of all time. I am judging her as a new artist, not a skank, not a b**ch, not some rich girl, but as if I had never heard of her before. For a new artist I think she did a good job and she is under-rated. But I am not promising every song is great, but she has passed the test and finally show some TALENT.
So if you want to be biast and judge on her character, write your reviews else where, if you want to actually jugde on the songs by all means do.
Well all her songs may not be hits but I gave her a 5 for being the most under-rated artist of the century.
Free Music Review: Open your mind and listen Hit: 5 Stars
This album is amazingly good. One of the best pop/rock albums in years. I am somebody that owns over 2,000 LP's and CD's. I've been a music fan for 35 years. And I have been especially enamored over the years by female singers, Carly, Blondie, Joan Jett and dozens of others. I second what many reviewers said, that if xtina, Gwen, et al had released this identical album, it would be praised, probably getting a 4 star/ 2 page review in Rolling Stone. But because it's PH, many people will be predisposed to hate it. I started from the place of actually loving Paris Hilton. I think she is gorgeous, dresses with a great fashion flair, is a fun media personality, and generally makes this terrible world a happier place. I really don't understand why she is so hated or just made fun of by so many people. It's almost become standard operating procedure to mock her in the press. I really don't get it.
And yet: I bought this CD over a year ago and it sat unopened until a week ago. I kinda dreaded actually playing it because I figured it would suck. When I finally put it in the car CD player, I was just hoping it would not be a total disaster. But right from the very first song, I could tell this was going to be good. What I did not expect is how there are no weak songs on the album, how good her voice sounds (although I assume that a lot of that has to do with great producers, especially Scott Storch) how fun and catchy the songs are, and how this is a real album, from beginning to end. It's like in the good old days of the 70's when I would sit down with a new vinyl album and listen intently. This is THAT kind of well-done ALBUM! Wow, this sure is a crazy world sometimes, when a Paris Hilton can give me a musical experience that reminds me of the first time I put on "Eat to the Beat".
Oh Paris, I'll never get to meet you. But you are my BFFL
