Free Music Notes for Greatest Hits by Pat BenatarFree Music Review: One SEXY STAR! Hit: 5 Stars
I do remeber HELL IS FOR CHILDREN as I survived child abuse from my dad and a divided family. My mom was nice to me, however. I was living with my ex-wife, yet this song moved me to the point of tears when I did hear it-that someone actually acknowledged the problems of abused children. Yet pops did not actually bribe me with gifts to shut me up! My dad seemed to be my enemy almost all the way up to his death. And I felt victory when I saw him dead in his casket!
Pat was performing at a night club called KIP'S on Secor Road near the U of Toledo when I started college. A former friend of mine seemed to like her music quite a bit.
I had purchased BEST SHOTS and was not actually pleased with it. At my age and experience I seemed to collect greatest hits albums instead of buying series' of musicians' albums like I used to do when I had records. But this is a very satifying album.
My ex-wife and I started out with the philosophy WE LIVE FOR LOVE when we married in 1978. But people meddled and it turned into LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD! I know about being young and in love and how some older people liked to push young people around as well.
Then I was moved by LA BEL AGE, although the meaning of the title escapes me. And a few years later, my life would have to slow down because of health problems. Some how my grad school seemed to be the climax of my achievements in life.
SEX AS A WEAPON reminds of a cruel little game the teasing pretty young blonde coeds started playing with me in grad school in 1986. It seemed like some evil witch took some cues from this song to use against me!
But THE OOH OOH SONG, I had seen on VH1 Classics years ago; and this was part of the reason I bought this CD was because of the cute song.
It is a sexy album. And I know that when I first started playing it in my home, some queer across the street would start coming outside and screaming at my house that all that I think about it sex! And I am not gay!
From what I saw on VH1 Classics I could see that Pat lives a well adjusted life with her husband and daughters. This is a good thing. A nice person with nice music. Didn't she take opera singing lessons? A very good quality singer in addition to being very sexy!
Free Music Review: YEAH..... SWEET ROCKER!!!!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
There was a question posed on VH-1's I Love The Eighties which asked which hot rocker chick would YOU rather sleep with between Pat Benatar and Debbie Harry (Blondie).
The comedian Titus, responded with what would have been my initial answer... both. Easy. U-S-A!!! You know what I'm saying?
Now, heres a question posed to me by a fellow employee at the BK that I work at. Who rocks more? Easy.
Pat Benatar, just may be, the most rockin' chick there ever was. She was a hot ticket back in 1980, and just as much in our modern society, where the most rockin chicks I've ever met, are like, grandmothers. WOOOO! Age is just a number, baby!
This Hits package is ideal for guys like me, who probably don't need EVERY album ever by this sweet chicky, but should have at least one in the collection, because, honestly, sometimes there are key moments to blare some hard core songs like HEARTBREAKER, WE LIVE FOR LOVE, HELL IS FOR CHILDREN, FIRE AND ICE, INVINCIBLE and lots of others. Serious rock and roll.
I needed no consideration on this package here. My colleague busted this out on a Friday night and it was excellent. Pat Benatar will make you happy to be alive when she cries out "We Are Strong...no one can tell us we're wrong!..." in LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD. What a hellcat. Married to her guitarist and producer from the very beginning, hey. Rock on, I didn't even think it was still legal to be married that long. Bad Ass Cd. No joke. I may just go and buy CRIMES OF PASSION too, just because I dig her on the cover in that black tank top.
Ok, I gotta revisit the first question about who I'd rather have sex with, cuz I'm at work and need something to pass my time. Pat Benatar. Yeah.
Blondie is damn hot for sure, but I'm sure she would just lay there like a corpse and look completely uninterested and just wait for me to finish.
Pat Benatar, I'm certain, would be rockin all night, again and again, until the crack of the next day, at which point she would make me take a shower with her to clean it off, and then cook me some pancakes. HOT DAMN!
Rock and roll can show you the light.
Free Music Review: An awesome collection from the greatest female vocalist ever. Hit: 5 Stars
There's not that many more superlatives that I can add to what other reviewers have stated about the sheer artistic (and physical) prowess that Pat Benatar has exhibited througout her career.
I've had a crush on this incredible woman ever since I was seven in 1982.
I have always considered her to be the greatest female singer to ever walk the earth and you would actually be hard pressed to find many male singers that could match her in terms of sheer talent & ability. This woman has an operatic 4 octave voice but the key here (are you listening Mariah Carey) that she knows how to use it and doesn't knock you over the head with her talent. Of course, all of her fans know that she has actually always been a long time tag team with her guitarst/husband/co-writer/producer Neil Giraldo.
This greatest hits collections is sterling proof of her genius as an artist/performer. While some people might say that some of the stuff on here is dated, I think that it really all stands up almost perfectly.
Packed to the brim with 20 tracks (the CD comes in at 79 minutes and 48 seconds) all remastered in crystal clear clarity, the track listing goes in chronological order from 1979 to 1989. This makes sense as 1989 was really the last time she actually had tracks/albums to chart. Not to say she hasn't done great stuff since then (she has in spades), but this collection does what a greatest hits collections is supposed to do. It collects all of the charting singles.
There's a great variety of stuff on here from hard rocking numbers such as Heartbreaker and Hell is For Children along with some of her more pop numbers like Love is a Battlefield.
This CD is simply a splendid listen from start to finish. While I still recommend for people to buy her individual albums as well, you would be hard pressed to find a greatest hits collection by any other artist that could match the material on here.
Essential for all music fans who truly appreciate great music.
Free Music Review: The Undisputed Queen of Rock - All Hail!!! Hit: 5 Stars
The sound of this new collection is utterly breathtaking. After listening to these songs for the past 20+ years on 8-track, vinyl, cassette, and CD on different systems from clock radios and boomboxes to expensive stereo systems, I thought I'd heard them at all levels of quality. This is like listening to them again for the first time. So much richness and clarity and depth. In a word, wow.
My only hangup is with the song choices. Basically what this "greatest hits" is covering is only the period where Pat was in her heyday, according to the American record buying public. Just because she removed herself from the "machine" that dictates what is or is not popular, the music that she produced post-'80s should not have been excluded, as some of it is part of the best she'd ever done, and continues to do.
There's a point in an artists career when they are so popular that they can release anything as a single and it will receive airplay. To include the OOh OOh Song, for example, is a joke. And being honest here, We Live For Love has always been one of her weakest songs, regardless of the sentimental attachment that she and Neil have for it.
Still I'm relieved that they didn't stick to solely singles in their description of "hits." Any compilation lacking Hell Is For Children would not be worth buying. That is, after all, the greatest rock song in history.
For die-hards, there's nothing new here other than the sound, but for newbies, this is a great introduction to Pat Benatar 101. Too bad there wasn't anything alerting them to the fact that she did continue recording after the '80s. Hopefully they'll be intrigued enough to purchase copies of True Love, Gravity's Rainbow, Innamorata, and Go.
You'll always be the Queen Of Rock, Pat. Tilt your crown to the side and relax. You've earned it.
Free Music Review: Best collection! Mastering is excellent and clear here! Hit: 5 Stars
I thought that they made a solid collection this time of Pat Benatar's greatest hits! They sure packed a lot on here for 79 minutes, because this whole CD rocks! This is far better than the '89 album of some of the same songs. A lot of my favorites such as Heartbreaker, Hell is For Children, the aggressive Promises in the Dark, Fire and Ice, Treat Me Right, the electrifying drums-heavy Sex As A Weapon, Invincible, We Belong, You Better Run, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, We Live For Love--can I stop now? What also wins on this collection is that her husband Neil Girardo produced and wrote many of these songs, with or without Pat. And even in her band! How many husband/wife teams can do rock and roll like these two do? For that I have more respect for Pat's music because of Neil's involvement. Even her later offerings All Fired Up are dynamite. I went nuts when she won her first Grammy Award, because her songs were tops! And that she won three more Grammys in later years too still bowls me! I still can't believe that Le Bel Age peaked at #54 on the pop chart, because that song still rocks 20 years later. It could have gone up to 5 or 10, but not everyone was ready for the all out assault the song has. The mastering is clear and excellent--it doesn't sound like they recorded from the vinyl albums and had static. You hear all the drums, lead guitars, and musicians playing in the mastering and mixing. Benatar still performs today and she still likes the guitars turned up LOUD!!!!This collection demonstrates why she's been an important part of music the past 25 years or so!
