Free Music Notes for True Love

Free Music Review: An admirable venture
Hit: 3 Stars

True Love is a heartfelt blues album, or as Benatar described it herself, "jump blues." Most of the songs are by legendary figures like B.B. King (Playin' The Cost To Be The Boss and I've Got Papers On You), Albert King (I Get Evil), T-Bone Walker (Evening) and Wynonie Harris (Bloodshot Eyes). Since most of these were written by men, a few lyrical twists and adaptations had to be made, but it works well enough. Neil Geraldo co-wrote I Feel Lucky and The Good Life, while the title track - a real Moody Blues-type number - was written by Benatar and Geraldo. A vigorous sound pervades the album and Benatar's dynamic, clear voice does justice to the songs. An admirable venture.

Free Music Review: Pat Sings the Blues
Hit: 3 Stars

On True Love Pat Benatar stretched her limits to include her love of the blues. It is a great album full of great blues tunes. It fell short of being a hit but is still a good listen. Rock music was born out of the blues and you can hear it in this pure blues collection.

Free Music Review: EXCELLENT VOICE/ANNOYING MATERIAL....
Hit: 2 Stars

Pat Benatar is a phenominal singer and she sings stupendously on the CD, but I just don't much like big band music, in the least so her voice could not compensate the annoying material and convince me to like it... The only songs I even remotely liked were TRUE LOVE and EVENING... The other songs just were cringing inducing... YUCK... I was gonna double this as an emergency coaster but I figured if the sales of this CD start to plummet, it may stop being printed and become a collector's item which would be the only reason I would keep it... WIDE AWAKE IN DREAMLAND was a million times better and THAT is out of print... never makes sense, does it folks... Anyways, if you love BIG BAND music than this is the CD 4 u... if not STAY FAR AWAY... This ranks right up there with GRAVITY'S RAINBOW which was better but not by much... Sorry folks but I will stick with the PB I am used to... Change is good but this was way too much 4 my taste...

Free Music Review: A honeymoon loser...
Hit: 2 Stars

I appreciate her efforts to sing different songs, but this album is the worst PB album I've heard. I agree with the reviewer who said the "Wide awake in dreamland" is MUCH better. These songs are not really listenable. I bought this CD on my honeymoon and within a year I had sold it to a thrift store. Luckily, my interest in my wife has lasted longer than my interest in this CD.

Free Music Review: Not my favorite.
Hit: 2 Stars

1991's "True Love" #37, is Pat's take on the Blues. It started out good with "Bloodshot Eyes" and "Payin' The Cost To Be The Boss", #17 mainstream rock, but after this nothing really stuck to the wall. This album has sat on the shelf now for about 20 years collecting dust. Pat returned to her sound on 1993's "Gravity's Rainbow".
