Free Music Notes for Avant GershwinFree Music Review: I miss Patti in the current day Hit: 3 StarsFirst I love Patti Austin, and there is far from anything wrong with this cd. It's just that..well..like the Ella Cd, it just doesn't exicte me. I miss the Patti Austin who brought me songs like "I will Remember You" and "Somebody Make Me Laugh, Somebody make me cry", & "In and Out of Love" just to name a very few.
I know those cds didn't sell that much, and I am sure she can get a lot more work singing Gershwin so a girl gotta do, what a girl gotta do and with her vocal chops she can sing anything, I just miss the ole patti.
Free Music Review: Beyond Hip Hit: 5 StarsThis CD blew me away. Patti's swinging, loving, and fresh interpretations of these songs forced me to jump out of my seat and cheer. The Cologne based WDR Big Band (featuring Frank Chastenier on piano, John Goldsby on bass, and Hans Dekker on drums) swings just as hard as Patti. Michael Abene's charts groove like crazy. Gold star for you, Ms. Austin. Five of them, in fact--big, sparkling, Grammy-shaped stars that light up the sky.
Robin Goldsby is the author of Piano Girl: A Memoir, and is the solo piano artist featured on Songs from the Castle and Twilight.
Free Music Review: Very Good collection Hit: 4 StarsPatti Austin is truly One of those Vocalists where you know you are hearing somebody that can sing/sang. she is so underrated it ain't even funny. now Her Pop Music stuff for the most part was so-so at best. but when she is able to showcase Her Jazz,Swing Hybrid along with Her Gospel vibe then She is unstoppable. this collection shows why this Woman can Sing anything&make it stop on a dime. Her vocal instrument is timeless. Patti can swing&Bop with the best of them. she does Gershwin justice here big time.
Free Music Review: The Best Hit: 5 StarsMiss Austin is like fine wine, she gets better with age! I love her take on these songs. It makes me long for more releases from her in the near future.
Free Music Review: More than Singing Hit: 5 StarsRosemary Clooney once said that she was only a member of the band, but she was also the only one with the words. That sums up this recording. Ms. Patti sings in and around fabulous orchestrations and mixing that has left the "live" feel of the two performances that were recorded, but the applause and other background noise often associated with a live recording are not there, resulting in tracks that are wonderful and familiar to the ear, even when it's just the band. In all, this is a deluxe package from Ms. Patti, who should be very proud.
