Free Music Notes for Gospel According to Patti Labelle

Free Music Review: Fine effort, but rushed
Hit: 3 Stars

I think Patti is wonderfull, and from seeing her recently I know that she can still sing just fine. I think this album was rushed, she even said she recorded it realatively fast as opposed to Timeless Journey where she took her time at her son's studio. Unfortunately, rushed albums usually don't fair too well. Even the cover is rushed with a picture from her Classic Moments album. But the album is still inspirational. Keep doing your thing Patti.

Free Music Review: Patti and Gospel = ??????
Hit: 3 Stars

I think Patti could have chosen better songs for this CD. The first two songs are below average and then the CD kicks into medium drive. "Walk Around Heaven" is good and a few of the others. The hip hop song with Kanye West is so so at best. Overall this album is just plain average. This is not an album I would go out and buy again.

Free Music Review: I'll Always love me some Patti LaBelle
Hit: 3 Stars

I like this CD because it is Patti. Although I was not moved (spiritually) as I have been from previously sung gospel tunes by Patti. Patti this purchase was to support you, even though I was looking for newer material.

Free Music Review: Sorry, not what I was expecting...
Hit: 2 Stars

I'm sorry Patti but this is not what I was expecting. I was looking forward to Patti's gospel album for sometime now. And though I hate to say it this is not it. I was expecting Patti to do a more traditional sounding gospel recording, you know like Aretha Franklin did back in the day. Instead, she chose to do this more hip-hop, R&B style music. To me the track "Anything" is about the best track on here but not for it's gospel appeal but more for it's inspirational lyrics. This is a real disappointment. And what's happening to her voice? Maybe I'm the only one that hears it but Patti's voice has changed from an electrifying, uplifting, powerhouse that was as clear as a bell, to an annoying, cracking, screeching sound. Notes that Patti used to hit with no effort at all is now a struggle for her. She seems to be hoarse all the time now. And she tend to make that annoying hiccuping sound a lot. You know, when it seems like she runs out of air. I don't know if she does this on purpose or not but it gets kinda aggravating. Every now and then is o.k but not too often. Maybe that throat infection she spoke of a while back did permanent damage. It pains me to say this about my beloved diva;it almost makes me want to cry. But if you are expecting a hip slappin, foot stompin, get up and shout kind of gospel then you'll have to wait a little longer because this is not it. I know Patti is capable of doing better; this however is far from it.

Free Music Review: What Happened Miss Patti ?!?
Hit: 2 Stars

I luv me some Miss Patti just like everyone else..... but what happened? Where's that voice that goes bezerk in concert when she sings gospel? I waited years for Miss Patti to deliver an out-n-out gospel album and have to say I am very disappointed in this. Sorry, but I have to be honest. We didn't need a 27th version of You Are My Friend. Besides whoever said that was a gospel song?! This is the same kind of disappointment I had with Jennifer Holliday's "gospel" album. Please LORD, let Martha Wash's upcoming "gospel" album be a great one with all songs being top ten material. We get enough filler on the regular releases, we sure don't need it on a gospel album. Sorry Patti, I will continue to buy your music, but this is not a gospel album. It was a cop-out to call it The Gospel According To... because then you can put whatever you want on the album and call it "gospel". Perhaps I expected too much. I put Miss Patti high on a pedestal with the greats- Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Martha Wash, Donna Summer, etc. I guess I should thank someone that there isn't a "gospel version" of Lady Marmalade on here.
