Free Music Notes for Feelin' Kinda Patton

Free Music Review: An instant favorite
Hit: 5 Stars

I laughed so hard I nearly hit a pedestrian.

Free Music Review: Some very funny stuff
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm not overly familiar with Oswalt's comedy. I had only heard him on the "Un-Cabaret" CD with various other comedians. But he did a hilarious bit about a series of wrong phone calls he kept receiving from someone named Pelo. Easily one of the funniest bits on that album (another being MadTV's Michael McDonald talking about being Faye Dunaway's comedy coach. Priceless!)

So I bought this album on the strength of that one comedy bit and for the most part I've enjoyed it. Lots of very funny material here. For some reason the Stella D'oro breadstick bit tickled me the most. My only complaint is that he can be a bit juvenile and homophobic. Another reviewer mentioned his repeated use of 'retard' and he uses 'gay' and 'faggot' as epithets as well. A lot of times it's in that 12-year-old, schoolkid way - 'That's so gay!' - but that doesn't really make it right. And he doesn't use 'faggot' as maliciously as some other comedians. But this took me out of the comedy and Oswalt is certainly more than funny enough that he shouldn't have to use such humor.

I'm sure people will accuse me of being overly sensitive. I was just disappointed because otherwise I'd say it was a perfect comedy act.

Free Music Review: Funny Stuff
Hit: 4 Stars

I bought this for my wife, who loves Patton on the Conan O'Brien show. It's a funny CD, though not as funny as a David Cross or Bill Hicks CD. Oswalt's humor tends towards midgets and retarded people--there are a LOT of jokes that involve "special ed" impersonations, including ones about gay people, President Bush, and TiVo, amongst others. He tries to be political in spots, but he's no Lewis Black, and he's at his best when he's just being goofy. Reminds me of the stand-up acts of Dave Attell and Jim Gaffigan.

I chose 4 stars to be generous; if halves were available, it would be a 3 1/2; my wife would give it a 5.

Free Music Review: If you already know you like Patton get "222"
Hit: 4 Stars

"222" is the 2-disc uncut version of this standup set. Its a full 2-discs, but it is non-stop funny. If you know that you like Patton's standup (from watching Comedians of Comedy, or his Comedy Central special) save yourself the trouble and get 222. Its only sold through a smaller site (or at indy record stores, apparently) you can find that if you go to Patton's website.

So, really, there's no reason that you shouldn't buy this CD, but if you want the "full" Patton Oswalt experience, hunt down a copy of 222 while you still can!

Free Music Review: I agree - don't listen while driving!
Hit: 4 Stars

The other posters aren't kidding -- it's actually not safe to drive while listening to this. I really did almost go off the road, I was laughing so hard.

I don't know if most of the other reviewers are old enough to remember playing around with LPs and/or The Chipmunks. But for us boomers, "My Christmas Memory" is sidesplitting. My brother and I both can listen to it again and again and laugh til we cry each time. "Steak" and the one about Open Night Mike are equally wonderful. Thanks, Mr. Oswalt.
