Free Music Review: Great idea,great songs,poor production

I listened to this CD in [local store] a few times before I bought it.I was really taken by the ambience and the coffeehouse atmosphere the CD has and the great singing.After I got it home and listened to the whole CD,I was really disappointed at the poor production.It is post produced to the hilt,it is overcompressed,very midrangy sounding with little bottom end.Whoever mastered it got caught up in the game of let's see how loud we can make this CD.It is louder than a lot of rock CDs that I have.The trouble with this is when you overcompress a song(which is fine for heayy metal),it takes away from all the natural dynamics which the artist set out to get,it ruins the coffeehouse ambience,would have sounded better unmastered.
