Free Music Notes for 1000 KissesFree Music Review: Best CD I have purchased this year! Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard Patty Griffin when she opened for the Dixie Chicks a few years ago in Tampa. I was so impressed that I ran home and downloaded everything I could find on Napster. (I have since purchased her CDs.) I have always been a fan of great female vocalists. Patty Griffin has something I have never heard before...a very distinct, beautiful sound. I LOVE the sound of her voice and I am dying to see her headline a show. This CD is fairly mellow, but upbeat at the same time which makes it perfect for any kind of mood; if I'm happy and want to dance a bit in the car, or sad and want a good cry while I belt out the tunes along with her, this is a CD I will listen to for the rest of my life! Thank You Patty!
Free Music Review: One of her best collections! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a huge fan of Patty Griffin anyway but this is one of her best albums in my opinion. I love almost every song with a passion except maybe Mil Besos...just couldn't get into it. Her vocals on "Chief" are evidence of her singing capabilities. When I first heard Chief, I must have replayed it 20 times. Love it.
One of her most beautiful songs, "Nobody's Crying" brought me to tears...just beauty at it's best. I dare you to try to not sing along to "Long Ride Home"...her lyrics are so well-composed with all the right notes in the right places.
Patty Griffin is one of the most gifted songwriters of our time. If you're just learning about Patty Griffin...you can't go wrong with this album.
Free Music Review: If my heart weren't broken, I'd be in love... Hit: 5 Stars
It is so hard to describe an album that is so perfect. Griffin creates characters with heart, with history, with so much solemnity and grace you can't help but believe they are living people. At times she sounds like a young Bruce Springsteen (think Nebraska), stark and captivating. At other times, she fits right in with her contemporaries Gillian Welch and Lucinda Williams, writing beautiful vignettes of Americana that break your heart. Her songs have a familiarity to them, as if they were the children of other great songs, but they turn unexpectedly, going to places their predecessors have not gone, revealing an emotional depth so many songwriters cannot capture. Simply beautiful.
Free Music Review: The majesty of Patty Griffin Hit: 5 Stars
Why Patti Griffin is not known to every adult in america is a mystery. Why I don't hear her on my radio is confounding. She is the Dylan of this age (her voice a delicate directed whisper one moment, and pealing the paint off the walls in another). Her devastating honesty and intensity confirm faith in the capacity for human expression to attain ethereal majesty. She exposes that inalienable connection we have to a universal truth in speaking directly to the soul. Her songs sear images into my being with a paintbrush of my own experience.
Buy this as an introduction to her other five cd's. You will very likely buy them all.
Free Music Review: Short but sweet... Hit: 5 Stars
Like any Patty fan, I was thrilled that she was finally releasing a new album. I loved her first album, "Living with Ghosts" b/c of her amazing voice and emotional lyrics. I was slightly disssapointed in the overdone studio sound to "Flaming Red." Well, she's back to her old self here on "1000 Kisses" and that's a wonderful thing! She's filled w/ emotion and soul. "Rain," "Be Careful," and "Long Ride Home" are my instant favorites. The only complaint is that the CD is too short! ...If you've liked Patty's earlier works... or are simply thinking about expanding your collection of female folk/rock CD's... this is a must have! Enjoy!
