Free Music Notes for Children Running ThroughFree Music Review: One of Patti's Very Best Hit: 5 Stars
In "Children Running Through" Patti Griffin belts out some of the most powerful folk lyrics of 2007. Patti Griffin sounds like Austin, Texas. "Children Running Through" is amongst her best. "Heavenly Day" will be remembered as a favorite song from this cd, with her powerful voice inviting us to enjoy the day. Much of the cd is reflective in tone with a spiritual emphasis evident in "Heavenly Day", "Up to the Mountain (MLK Song)" and many others. She rocks us with her classy blues rock in tunes like "Stay on the Ride". And she gives us raucous time on "No Bad news" and "Getting Ready" which remind me of some of Patti's early harder rockin feel on her album Flaming Red - her self-described "loud album."
Her duet on "trapeze" with guest vocalist Emmylou Harris All the Roadrunning is a delightful alt-country treat. Their voices blend so sweetly with great strength and beauty. In addition to the guest appearance of Emmylou Harris, Ian McLagan Extra Live also plays piano with her on "Heavenly Day" and "Up to the Mountain (MLK Song)." Many other talented artists add instrumental highlights to the cd. It really is amongst her best. What a treasure.
Free Music Review: Are you people crazy?? Hit: 5 Stars
Anyone giving this album less than 4 stars needs to get their ears and brains examined. You have obviously missed the entire boat on this one or you just don't get Patty or her approach to songwriting at all. The key word here, people, is versatility. If you are the type of person that likes everything to sound safe and the same, then you will be disappointed. This album is an absolute masterpiece. Patty has always produced incredible music in the past, but this album showcases all her styles in one beautifully well put together package. There are no weak spots here. Her singing is more confident than ever and is in the foreground, which I absolutely love. When the music is sparse in the quieter songs, Patty's vocals are just stunning. Then she turns around and rocks out like there's no tomorrow and you just keep wanting more. I have not stopped listening to this album since it's release and it just keeps growing on me more and more. No record collection should be without Children Running Through. Remember that title. You will hear comparisons being made to it for years to come.
I finally am getting the opportunity to see patty live this June in Austin and I simply cannot wait.
Free Music Review: Patty does it again Hit: 5 Stars
I have been waiting for this album with great excitement, being an ardent Patty Griffin fan. Once again, she has surpassed my expectations. It took me a couple of listens to get into it, but now I can't stop playing it. We all know what a gifted songwriter she is, but the production and delivery of the songs here reflect her ability to connect with her material - even when I don't understand what she is singing about! This album has everything - from the ethereal, haunting sounds of "Railroad Wings" & "Someone else's tomorrow", the lovely pictures she draws with "Burgundy Shoes", "Trapeze" & "Stay on the Ride", to her gutsy delivery on "Getting Ready" & "No Bad News". She has verntured more into the gospel gentre this time with "Heavenly Day" & "Up to the Mountain", the latter of which she has sung with such restrain, it's heart-breakingly beautiful. I think my favourite though, (for now!), is "I Don't Ever Give Up". It's pure Patty, and I love it. The album has been beautifully produced, in a simliar vein to "Flaming Red". Get it as soon as you can, and don't stop playing it!!

Free Music Review: move, inspire and entertain Hit: 5 Stars
Patty Griffin is a storyteller. Rarely confessional or self-indulgent, she tells tales, assumes personas and takes the listener deep into the lives of her characters. Each persona has her or his own musical interpretation, deepening and strengthening the voice. In "Up to the Mountain (MLK Song)," Griffin assumes the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and puts herself into to the head and heart of a man working for a vision and a dream. Hope seems to be a theme on this latest effort, as is travel. "Stay on the Ride" has a man riding the bus day in and day out because "it's gonna take me somewhere." Griffin takes some musical risks and periodically diverges from her comfortable style, as in the jazzier tones of the opening track, "You'll Remember," and the gospel-infused strains of "Heavenly Day" and "Up to the Mountain." "Trapeze" showcases a gorgeous duet with the master of harmonies, Emmylou Harris. Patty Griffin is an artist who has hit her stride and stayed there for years. This album proves her staying power and continued ability to move, inspire and entertain.
Free Music Review: MOVE OVER LUCINDA Hit: 5 Stars
There is room for one more brilliant singer/songwriter, and it is Patty Griffin. While she fits the classic "journeyman" mode, she has added a gentle and allknowing spirit to the journey. This artist has had my ear since the mid 90's with her lyrics about everyday living and small gestures, set to tunes that you will find yourself singing for days, months, and years after the first listening. With this new collection she now has my heart as well. She is singing with a new found assurance that only comes with the wisdom of life and its travails. She has come a long way from the "Moses" days, and entered a new realm with the lyricalness of "Railroad Wings" and "Burgundy Shoes". The heart felt plea to the struggle to live in harmony that she wrings from "Up To The Mountain(MLK Song)" needs to be included in hymnals across the land. Yes, I felt as though I had gone to church, a church that includes all and shows that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel, a completely different kind of light. I can not wait for the next journey!
