Free Music Review: Continuing her brilliance!
Hit: 5 Stars

"Children Running Through" may not be Patty Griffin's best effort to date, but it is definitely a worthy addition to her rich catalog. It is wonderful to see how some of these songs have evolved, like "Burgundy Shoes", which has been around since the "Impossible Dream" tour. In the earliest form of the song I am aware of, it was very similiar in sound and form to "The Kite Song". Since that time, it has been reworked and is very much its own song....and hauntingly beautiful to say the least! The addition of the string section to many of the songs also adds to how incredible this album is. Listen to "I Don't Ever Give Up" and tell me you don't get chills! It's impossible!

One minor complaint is that the 3 additional tracks available through various means (iTunes and Barnes and Noble) were not incorporated into the album. These tracks are all wonderful and worth getting if you can. Otherwise, the album is brilliant. If you are a fan, or if you are just getting introduced to Patty, don't pass this album by!

Free Music Review: Children Running Through Will Take Hold of Your Soul
Hit: 5 Stars

Sometimes, music that is easy to listen to, is tiring to hear because it's too much of the same thing. Not the case for CHILDREN RUNNING THROUGH! "You'll Remember" casts the veil of Nora Jones. "Trapeze" with Emmylou Harris mimics that incredible sound of ALL THE ROAD RUNNING (Knopfler/Harris). "Burgundy Shoes" matched the incredible vocals and style of Cathie Ryan's "Somewhere Along The Road". When I first heard "Heavenly Day" and "Crying Over", I was haunted by the resemblance to Eva Cassidy. But this album is never too mellow or too folk - "Getting Ready and "No Bad News" could have been on Sheryl Crow's WILDFLOWER. If you love Damien Rice's female vocalist Lisa Hannigan, you'll have to hear "Someone Else's Tomorrow". "Up to the Mountain" really showcases Patty Griffin's vocals. This voice has found it's home in every song on CHILDREN RUNNING THROUGH. Mother's Day is coming - any wife, girlfriend, mother, daughter or grandaughter would LOVE this cd. It takes hold of your heart and your soul.

Free Music Review: A heavenly voice that stirs your soul.
Hit: 5 Stars

Given the number of reviews written for this cd, Patty seems to have found her audience.

So what can I add? ...little except for a story about Patty a few years ago playing to - if not a rude audience - certainly an unreceptive one - in the comparatively far off climes of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, as a warm act for the Dixie Chicks. To put it mildly, the audience mostly sat on their hands. I felt like personally apologizing to her as she poured out her heart to us ...but a few were listening...I know I was, and I subsequently began exploring her music, all of which has been good and I have enjoyed - until this cd.

This cd transcends her previous ones - there simply is something magical about it that speaks to your soul. I don't know what it is and if I did I would bottle it and share it but she has just outdone herself and I am so thankful she has. Sorry for Saskatoon Patty, and a heartfelt thank you for this beautiful gift you possess and share with us. Marvelous stuff!

Free Music Review: Profoundly Beautiful...
Hit: 5 Stars

Patty Griffin has created an absolute masterpiece with here new album "Children Running Through". The opening song puts us right back in the seat that Patty left vacant on the last song from "Impossible Dream". She leads us into a wonderfully blues/rockabilly track appropriately named "Stay On The Ride". After which we do just that. We stay on the ride for Patty Griffin's masterwork. I am a huge fan of all of her previous albums. "Children Running Through" brings all the best of Patty's talent out in the open. Her wonderful songwriting and spot on vibrato is in the forefront as usual. However, its seems as if she has came to accept the fact that she should be comfortable with her voice, which in previous albums it seemed as if she was a bit shy to let go. She lets go on this album. She is paving her own way in music. I have all the love and respect for Patty and her amazing talent. I only hope she continues for many years to come. She helps brighten my life everytime I listen to her.

Free Music Review: Singer/Songwriter Breaking Through
Hit: 5 Stars

It seems Patty has finally broken through with the release of her latest album. And, deservedly so. I thought she would have a very difficult time ever approaching the quality of her "Impossible Dream" release. But, she may have actually exceeded the high standard set by that unbelievably creative collection. It will take a few more listens to make a final determination, but clearly, this album is no disappointment, as follow up releases sometimes are. Patty's vocals on "Heavenly Day",
"I Don't Ever Give Up", and "Crying Over", are so good, they hurt. At least 5 of the other tracks are worthy inclusions, especially "Trapeze" and "Railroad Wings".

It's great to see Patty finally getting her due. I've been collecting music for more than 40 years, and I've only seen a handfull of artists with back-to-back albums of this quality. If you're a fan of great music, and don't already own and play both of them, how sad.
