Free Music Review: Mesmirizing multi-faceted talent
Hit: 5 Stars

Lucky me! I just witnessed one of the best concerts ever in my life by Patti Griffin in Louisville, KY. Having seen her twice before, I was amazed at how much she had improved in every way and particularly with her band. She sang numerous songs from "Children Running Through" which I consider her most mature, diverse, creative work. She brought the crowd two its feet with a smoking version of "No Bad News" in which the band jammed magnificently. The audience was in rapture, hanging on every poignant image conjured up by "Trapeze" and "Burgundy Shoes". "Up the Mountain" already seems like a classic, a song many artists will cover (...and already covered on "American Idol" tv show--eek!)
My regret was that I wanted to hear the entire concert again...to savor it more.

I'll be brief. After reading all of the other reviews of Patty Griffin's "Children Running Through" there just isn't much left to say. Others have already favorably compared her lyrics to the likes of Dylan, and her vocal stylings to Sam Cooke. So what's left to add? Just this: This album is destined to become a classic. It is flat out the finest collection of musical offerings that I have heard in years. Not since I first listened to "Dark Side of the Moon", or some years later U2's "Joshua Tree", have I fallen so instantly and completely in love with an album. In particular her gospel/soul inspired "Heavenly Day" has easily found it's way onto my top five favorite songs of all time list. This was my first Patty Griffin album, but it won't be my last. Buy it!

Free Music Review: Never disappointing, never predictable, always incredible.

I first heard components of this album live in Asheville last Spring--I don't remember if she had brought any of these out when I saw her on tour the year before. They struck a chord when I heard them then, and again when I pulled them out last night. Living with Ghosts is Patty's work that strikes me so hard, so overwhelmingly every time I listen to it--this album is a little more open and accessible (not quite so dark and primal) while still showcasing her incomparable vocal talent. It's reflective and deep, but still upbeat. And, if you've ever seen Patty live, you know she can rock and seems to love to. So it's great to have a couple more rockin' tunes that are reminiscent of 'Flaming Red'--I missed those on Impossible Dream.

Free Music Review: A gem...
Hit: 5 Stars

This is clearly another brilliant and daring exploration of what is bleak and beautiful among us. Rarely do lyrics, production and vocals coincide with such grace and power. Patty Griffin has done her Blood on the Tracks with this and maybe even moves us forward from Dylan's masterpiece as well. As with many great albums, Children Running Through exceeds the sum of its parts and reminds us it is possible for a soul to cut through all that is poised to dilute, re-direct, re-package it and triumphantly move others with its labors. Patty Griffin has once again brought us to the campfire of human experience. This album offers up our commonality in a way that makes one a better person for the accepting. Goddamn great record.

Free Music Review: A moving feast of sound
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the first album/CD i have of Patty Griffin but wow; it's the most moving piece of music I have heard in a long long time.
Originally I bought it because I heard the song "You'll Remember" on the last show of Smallville. It was so haunting that I had to write the name of the artist down when the credits went by so that I could find it.

Her rendition of "Up to the mountain" is breath taking and hard not to cry over...
but my most favorite (although there are many) is "Heavenly Days".
That one wretches my heart so much and I am not quite sure why.

The girl has a gift that flows through her being and out to the rest of us.
Keep on singing Patty.
