Free Music Notes for Flaming Red

Free Music Review: Griffin is nothing less than brilliant!
Hit: 5 Stars

I try to pass this around to friends often, but I have to get it back immediately or I suffer severe separation anxiety. I loved Griffin's first CD, which was great for showcasing her songwriting talent, but I longed to hear that gutsy voice in front of a full band. Wow! Flaming Red gets my vote for album of the year, and Patty Griffin has restored my faith in women in (slightly more mainstream) rock and roll. Fabulous mix of angst, independence and child-like vulnerability. Her voice covers every emotion and tells a different story inside some refreshingly different music production styles that are as mixed as her emotions. I'm not surprised to see a legend like Emmylou Harris jump in and help sing Griffin's beautiful hymn "Mary." This woman is definately going places. Favorites: ONE BIG LOVE, TONY, WIGGLY FINGERS and MARY.

Free Music Review: TOP 10 Favorite CD of all time....
Hit: 5 Stars

The reviews posted for this album inspired me to write a review of my own. I am a person with diverse musical taste. Good music is good music, no matter what the genre. My first experience with Flaming Red was 5 years ago and it still remains on my all time Top 10. I was not familiar with Patty Griffin until my sister bought me the CD in '99. I have worn it out to the point I have had to replace it twice! As a folk lover, I can see how a fan of her older music would be shocked by this CD. Unlike most of your other reviewers on this CD, I am so attached to Flaming Red that I have had trouble buying her other mellower albums. It is rock that envokes a dark/haunting type of emotion. "Tony" gets me every time. If you love rock, yet appreciate folk as well, Patty Griffin's melding of the two genres will quickly rate on your Top 10 too!

Free Music Review: Another "Days of future Passed" album
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this album based on the song "Change" that was featured on a free album obtained from a Best Buys store promotion. This is without a doubt another album that is impossible to surpass. Much like the Moody Blues album "Days of Future Passed" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". I love Rock & Roll from the past, but Patty really brings rock fans like myself into the 90's and soon the millenium. She is one fine talented superlady that deserves recognition and a "Grammy". Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, Maddona etc. should look over their shoulder at what is coming! Patty Griffin has arrived! Every song on this album is terrific. I can not remember when I have been able to say this about any album since the well documented & recognized classics.

Free Music Review: Patty Griffin Is A Miracle
Hit: 5 Stars

If I said Griffin was the best songwriter of the last decade, it would only be an injustice to her amazing voice, which swoops from raw, rugged rockers to achingly beautiful ballads at the drop of a hat. Listen to "Tony," a story of high-school guilt as seen over the shoulder of that big, fat slob in the front row (some of these shlumps went on to found software companies and become billionaires--not this one). Then try "Wiggly Fingers," which is as sexy as anything by Joan Osborne or Lucinda Williams. But finish off with the lullabies that wind the disk down, and you realize that this is not so much a departure from "Living With Ghosts" as a fulfillment of its promise. If this is not Griffin's best CD (the material may be a bit stronger on Ghosts or 2001 Kisses), it's certainly her most versatile.

Free Music Review: Anxious for Her Next Effort
Hit: 5 Stars

Patty Griffin is a fantastic singer/songwriter and one of my major living musical influences (I'm Patty cover song crazy)...Her singing range and voice inflections are powerfully driven ethereal projections of emotional response to her human experiences...She folds the genres of Folk and Rock into her own particular musical expression from the hard hitting title track "Flaming Red" to her softly melodious "Mary"...

An amazing woman with true talent...I was introduced to her by a contact I had in the Boston area who had sent me "Living With Ghosts" and voila! I became a Patty fan...I've had the delight of witnessing a live performance of hers...a MUST SEE...

Purchase BOTH LWG and FR, they're worth the listen...haunting, pounding...more Patty MORE!
