Free Music Notes for Flaming RedFree Music Review: Utterly Brilliant - A Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
Finally somebody gets it! If you are tired of the trite, banal drone of popular music, do yourself a favor and explore the brilliant songwriting and powerful vocals of Patty Griffin's second CD, "Flaming Red" A follow-up to her first all-acoustic CD, "Living with Ghosts" (Brilliant in it's own right), Flaming Red takes you on an emotional trip through a myriad of pleasures and pains. Griffin's songwriting and beautiful lyrical phrasing combine with irresistable melodies which result in an unforgettable experience. I bought this CD on a whim and haven't stopped listening to it since. Do yourself a favor, listen to Patty Griffin.
Free Music Review: Two Patty Griffins Hit: 5 Stars
Those of you who loved "living with ghosts" should not be evaluating this in context with her early work. It's a great album, with a fantastic array of different styles. Put it this way: buy this for the great music, and just pretend you don't know it's her?
Standouts: "One Big Love" - just a great song. "Tony" emotionally charged. "Wiggly fingers" - C'mon, we've all been there... "Christina" - Probably the best song of the bunch.
It's hard to get a 5 star from me, it means 50% of the album has to be rated 5 stars on my ipod, and the rest at least a 4. This is a definite must have for anyone's collection
Free Music Review: She does it again! Hit: 5 Stars
I fell in love with Pattys voice when I heard her sing "Let Him Fly" on a Liltih Fair sampler I got at the concert. She has one of those raspy BIG voices that just makes you feel what she is talking about. Living in Ghosts was purely an acoustic album. Flaming Red, on the other hand, is a pure rock album. The title cut rips...and other songs like "Tony"..."Blue Sky"..."Mary" are just as good. The entire album is wonderful. I had an opportunity to see Patty live last year and was blown away. If you get a chance, she also has a song on the Anywhere But Here soundtrack as well.
Free Music Review: As Good as It Gets Hit: 5 Stars
In her sophomore effort, the petite redhead from Maine shows her amazing musical range, with everything from a fiery, raucous, come-to-Jesus rendition of "Flaming Red" to the awe-inspiring, quiet story of one woman's plight in "Mary." She takes on subjects ranging from teen suicide ("Tony") and domestic violence ("Change"), to the purest forms of romance ("Go Now"). Patty Griffin proves herself to be a force to be reckoned with, head and shoulders above those other Lilith babes. Buy this record. Buy it now... You'll be glad you did!
Free Music Review: A stunning sophmore effort... Hit: 5 Stars
I was a huge fan of "Living With Ghosts." I was jarred by my first listen of "fLAMING rED." I wasn't prepared for the title song and shelved the disc for a few months. After hearing "One Big Love" over the airwaves a few times I pulled the disc back out and WOW! This is an incredible disc with great melodies, intriguing lyrics, and some GREAT singing by Patty. I'm enthralled with the whole thing but favorites include "Blue Skies", "Christina", "Goodbye", and "Mary". Probably THE DISC of 1998!!!
