Free Music Notes for Impossible DreamFree Music Review: impossible to get out of my changer Hit: 5 Stars
I now know what it must be like to be heroin addict. Since buying this cd a month ago, I have been unable to keep from hearing it at least once a day. I am particularly addicted to "Useless Desires" and "When it Don't Come Easy". I do not believe I have ever heard two songs on the same cd that have ever had this effect on me. And now, sadly, I am discovering how great the remainder of the album is. I may never be able to get it out of my changer. At least I still have five other slots. The combination of Patty's writing and vocalizations is something so rare, I can't think of any current singers other than Don Henley who compares. Buy this cd and you will surely be compelled to explore more of Patty's undeniably brilliant work.
Free Music Review: LOVE IT! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a Tori, Ani, Radiohead fan who wanders into unknown territory all the time, just to see what else is going on. I've been fooled by great reviews on Amazon before and so I creeped slowly toward Ms. Griffin, ready to bolt for the door the moment I suspected a trap. In the end, I bought this album simply because I thought the album art was real perdy.
Now, my CD player refuses to give this one up and I'm not complaining. Patty, how did I live without you for so long?
This album is full of heart, honest, and bellowing, weeping, and laughing with talent that is certain of itself, minus an overblown ego.
I bought all the other albums and am waiting, waiting, waiting for them to arrive. Patty, I hope you're in the studio right now, recording more!
Free Music Review: Antidote for the Musical Blahs Hit: 5 Stars
For those like myself who find Norah Jones' music bland, here is an alternative. Patty Griffin sings as though her life depends on it, and perhaps ours too. These songs contain memorable melodies and penetrating, at times mysterious lyrics, and it's one of those albums where there's no filler. I get goose bumps from certain music, when a combination of melody and voice somehow transforms what I'm hearing into more than "just music". It doesn't happen often. The classical composer Gustav Mahler is good at giving me goosebumps. Likewise, I get goosebumps in several places on this album. Mahler and Patty Griffin have almost nothing in common musically, but listening to both I feel as though they put me in direct touch with something beautiful, unsettling, and deep.
Free Music Review: Impossible to say enough! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been listening to Patty Griffin since her first album. To me, she is the finest female singer/songwriter on the planet today. She paints some of the most compelling lyrical images you have ever read, and then couples them with the most heart-rending voice I think I have ever heard. Quite simply, this album represents her at her apex. I basically have not stopped listening to it since I purchased it. If I could only take two albums with me to a desert island, I would take Impossible Dream and James McMurtry's "Where'd You Hide the Body." Then I could die there in peace. If you've never heard Patty Griffin, you can't go wrong buying this album. Every person I have exposed to her has become a fan -- without exception. She's simply that good.
Free Music Review: Impossible Masterpiece! Hit: 5 Stars
I am a huge Patty Griffin fan, and I honestly was curious if she could match or top the brilliance of "Flaming Red", "1000 Kisses", or "Living with Ghosts". Her newest release, "Impossible Dream", is amazing. The lyrics are fantastic, and her versatility is astounding. Because Patty constantly strives to outdo herself, and doesn't release repetitions of her prior efforts, you must listen to the CD a few times to thoroughly appreciate her most recent work. A very thoughtful and poignant compilation -- "Useless Desires", "Don't Come Easy", and "Florida" show off her magnificent voice and will leave you with chills. I will be reluctant to remove this cd from my player.
