Free Music Review: A True Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

It's extremely rare when an artist can make you stop what you're doing, make you hit repeat and really listen to what they have to say. Not only are her words incredibly thought provoking, but Patty Griffin's melodies stick with you in that "It's a Small World" kind of way, but without the cursing after you hum them. "When It Don't Come Easy", "Useless Desires", "Standing" and "Mother of God" are not to be missed tracks from this fantastic offering from one of the best songwriters I've ever had the privilege of listening to. If you have an opportunity to see her live, I highly recommend going. It'll be an experience you never forget. It's really great to finally see her getting the acclaim that she so rightfully deserves.

Free Music Review: This Album touched my Soul strings
Hit: 5 Stars

This is not a review of music but rather my appreciation of it, for I am not qualified to critique music.
I went searching for music that will make me feel connected and I found it in the Impossible Dream by Patty Griffin. Similar to my first listen to Studio Sessions by Cowboy Junkies, I was turned off by the folksy-country-like sound. But, like the CJ album after a few more play-throughs I was able to appreciate that the music does not vere (sp?) down the mainstream folk-country path. Rather, it is soulful and truly musical. When I listen to this album I feel good about who I am and I'm able to contemplate my life and beyond. That is what I want music to do. Just what I was looking for! Thanks Patty.

Free Music Review: most beautiful album of the year
Hit: 5 Stars

Patty Griffin has created the most beautiful album of the year. These wistful, yet sturdy, songs transcend categorization. The arrangements are simple but not simplistic (they sort of remind me of Carole King's Tapestry though we are talking a different sound and style). "Mother of God" is a striking song about, well, one of those songs that is so powerful that you will apply your own interpretation - it is about home and growing older and anger and grace. "The Rowing Song" has a melody that makes moves you to another location - say a calm, quiet river. This is a mature work. This is the most literate and melody laced work since, well, name whatever your most favorite album happens to be.

Free Music Review: Sublime Work from Patty
Hit: 5 Stars

Its impossible to describe this album as anything less than astonishing. I had my intro to Patty through this record and what a find she was.

Anyone interested in hearing beautiful heartfelt singer-songwriter folk/country material should check this out.

From the gospel tinged 'Love Throws A Line' through to the atmospheric blues track, 'Standing' to the charming 'Rowing Song' every track here is entrancing.

My personal highlight is 'Useless Desires'. I can admit like other reviewers to having tears in the back of my eyes after hearing such a beautiful and heartbreaking track.

A highly recommended remedy for all your soul's aches and pains

Free Music Review: Her music keeps getting 5 Stars

I am in awe of this woman's talent. With every album she releases I expect I might find a "recycling" of what she has produced before, like you get with so many musical artists. I expect to not enjoy the new release as much, but fortunately so far, I have been dead wrong. This album is awesome and I love that she is three dimensional and refuses to yield to producing some tapped out formulated version of her previous releases. The blues/gospel tone to "Love Throw a Line" and "Standing" is a perfect fit for such a soulful voice. "When It Doesn't Come Easy", "Useless Desires", and "Top of the World" are standouts. Great Album!
