Free Music Notes for Living With GhostsFree Music Review: This CD has been in constant rotaion in my player since 1996 Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, don't listen to anyone who says that Flaming Red isn't amazing. It's spectacular. Second, what more can I say about Living With Ghosts that has not already been said. Everything Patty does is pure poetry. Not Alone is my favorite song of all time. Forgivness will move you to tears. Every Little Bit is so powerful. I am just sorry that most of the country will now think that Let Him Fly is a Dixie Chicks song. I had the honor of meeting Patty after a small concert in Hampton, VA. She is an amazing woman, so gracious. She has some incredible musicians backing her up. They put on a GREAT show. Patty, THANK YOU for the unparalleled beauty that is your music. Oh, and PLEASE come back to Viriginia! I can't wait to hear Silver Bell.
Free Music Review: fan since 2000, this is her best album Hit: 5 Stars
i have every album patty has released since living with ghosts. they don't live up to her first album. this is her masterpiece, and its amazing that she released it as her first album. the songs are "stripped down," and they are deeply poetic and hauntingly vivid. in the albums since then, she might have one or two songs on each that are brilliant, but the entire living with ghosts album is brilliant. her more recent work especially has been sort of a disappointment, but i'm glad that she still gains popularity and still makes music. its hope that one day she can top living with ghosts. flaming red would probably be her 2nd best album, with 1000 kisses a really close 3rd. the other 2 or 3 more recent ones i can live without...
Free Music Review: Raw and Brilliant Hit: 5 Stars
If you think the Velvet Underground or MC5 are raw, you ain't heard nothing yet. Patty sings like an exposed raw nerve, when she wails and when her voice is a bare whisper. And unlike some affected Janis Joplin-caterwaul, her voice is a powerful instrument, at once immediate and refined. Let's put it this way: you never heard the beauty in screaming guitar licks before you heard Hendrix, and you have never heard the beauty in pain and pathos until you've heard Griffin. Buy this album and you will be in awe of her testimony. It's just her and her guitar, but the "her" part of the equation more than makes up for any potential augmentation. Just get this record, listen to Patty, and connect with some true humanity.
Free Music Review: Absolutely Glorious Hit: 5 Stars
The vioce, the guitar, the lyrics... Everything on this album screams beauty. I cannot tell you how many times I sit back and listen to "Poor Man's House" over and over again. The album, which is comprised of demo songs, has an unexplainable fluidity that is rare in an album these days. Her poignant lyrics reach into me with such simplicity and grace that it is difficult to comprehend what I am actually hearing. By track ten I cannot believe what I have just heard. I urge everyone out there who is teedering between purchasing this album or not, to just close your eyes, hold your breath and buy it. I hope it sends you on a prolific musical experience overflowing with raw beauty.
Free Music Review: UH MAY ZING! Hit: 5 Stars
I appreciate all types of music and will listen to just about anything; but never have I been so captivated by one cd. Usually, any cd I listen to, I find myself skipping through one or two of the songs--"Living With Ghosts" is a whole different ballgame. I can turn it on and listen to it straight through. Every song is incredible; and what makes it so, is the fact that it's Patty and her guitar...and THAT'S IT! No drums, no back up singers, no studio-produced mixing or effects. It's true, organic, honest musical art. My biggest question is, "Who's in charge of what's played on the radio?" They should be fired; I never hear Patty on the radio and it's a crying shame! BUY THIS CD!
