I kinda just happened to stumble on this cd, and i am so happy i did! I'm real into the girl and her guitar bit and i love beautifully crafted songs. this albumn has it all! the lyrics are honest and the emotion is so raw! Time will do the talkin will plant itself in your head...it never leaves mine...every little bit is just a masterpiece..when i sing along to this my throat hurts when i'm done! i mean this woman has an incredible voice! let him fly and forgiveness are also favs...this albumn is a blend of folk and rock, perfect if you ask me...if you like ani difranco or dar williams you'll like this..trust me it will grow on you..make a nice little comfortable home under your skin!Free Music Review: An awesome talent....

The above title is meant in the most literal way possible. I found her completely by accident from listening to some bits of songs online just following the links from similar artists Emmylou Harris and Darden Smith. Thirty seconds of the opening track "Moses" was sufficient to make me want to buy it that night and have been very pleased from the first moment I put it on to play.
Patty Griffin is a wonderful songwriter; a strong singer with a lot of emotion behind the words; and an excellent guitarist. That is exactly what you get with this cd - Patty singing her own songs with just a guitar; and it may very well be the most powerful solo acoustic cd I've ever heard.

I love Patty Griffin. She is one of the greatest modern folkies out there. Just like Martin Sexton or Laura Love, she has the power to reach right in and dig out all those feelings you're too afraid to release. Her voice is strong enough to hold its own without all the goop most of today's singers add to make up for their lack of talent. Her themes are strong. But her lyrics are the most amazing. "I need Moses to cross the sea of loneliness/Part this red river of pain." "We are not snakes and what's more, we never will be....it's hard to give/it's hard to get/but everybody needs a little forgiveness>." Do yourself a favor. I never tire of this record. For me it's like home. I still get goose bumps upon hearing "Every Little Bit", or "You Never Get What You Want", and I wonder each time what Patty Griffin's process is. How does she do it? How does she cut so close to the emotional bone and still produce something so beautiful? We may never know, and really who cares? If her process creates masterpieces like this, certainly we all benefit. Patty Griffin is a true storyteller with musical capabilities far beyond those who are lucky enough (but less talented) to sell millions. I tell everyone about this record. Don't hesitate to buy this-you will thank me 1000 times.Free Music Review: What a voice!

It took me a while to get to like this CD, but now that I do I don't know what I was thinking. I would say that it really helps to have a decent sound system for this album, because her voice is really wonderful and the guitar work is really delicate. I'm not usually a fan of solo singers with acoustic guitars, but this album really works. It is not an over produced studio enhanced sound, and still her voice is strong and clear enough to keep it from sounding as mundane and ordinary.
Griffin's second album, Flaming Red, is quite different (she plays with a band, and some of the songs are pretty rockin'), but also definitely worth the money.
