Free Music Notes for Living With GhostsFree Music Review: Tales of Despair and Broken Hearts Never Sounded So Good Hit: 5 Stars
From the opening notes of the first song "Moses", 'Diamonds, roses, I need Moses, To cross this sea of loneliness, part this red river of pain', I was already sold.
Patty Griffin could make the names of the telephone book sound tragic... She's so earnest in her despair, you totally believe her when she tells you that 'There's no talking to this man... I've already tried all that, I'm gonna let him fly..."
The bare living room acoustics of the recording also gives the listener the feeling that he's listening to an old friend over a cuppa.
Free Music Review: Buy this CD!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Spectacular debut album from an incredible talent. I had the privilege of seeing Patty on the Concert for a Landmine-Free World tour. Despite being on stage with stars like Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Bruce Cockburn, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty stole the show. I was completely unfamilair with her before the show, but I came away with 2 reasons to believe I had just heard something special --1) Earle had to follow her in the rotation, and at one point simply reacted to her song with a "yikes" and 2) my ex-wife hated her.
Free Music Review: Can I give the lyrics 6 stars? Hit: 5 Stars
I am truly enjoying this piece of artwork. No, the music, while great folk guitar, is not anything you have not heard before. Ok, so it is even somewhat repetitive. Especially in track 5 Mad Mission. BUT.... the lyrics make up for any over simplification of the music. I love it when a song tells a story and makes a point. Most songs now a day don't really say all that much, or are so extreme about one subject you don't really want to hear it anymore.... This album is different. The subject matter is broad and reaching. Great work!!!!!
Free Music Review: Beautiful ..... 100 stars.. Hit: 5 Stars
I am amazed at the strength and at the same time the tenderness inside this
piece of music. I had been listening to alot of rock and roll so at first I
felt this cd was just okay. I have never been more wrong in my life. This is
a masterpiece and the singer and the songs become one. I was late to the party
on this.....but I would not have wanted to miss this for the world. I have bought
several copies of this and given to friends. I don't think anyone who loves
music should be without this recording,
Free Music Review: Amazingly UnderRated Hit: 5 Stars
I attended the very first ever Lilith Fair at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia Md. At the end of the performance cassette tapes were given out with various artists on them. Patty Griffin was one of the artists with the song Let Him Fly. That was in 1996 (I think.) It is 2000 and although there is not much talk of Ms. Griffin in the news, her song has still won my heart. I consider it the best song ever written and I can't believe how unknown Ms. Griffin is after a piece of work such as that. Hats off to a masterpiece....
