Free Music Notes for Sleepless NightsFree Music Review: Patty's Roots and Inspiration Hit: 5 Stars
Patty Loveless is the most genuine, true-to-her roots artist in country music today, and this CD displays her credentials beautifully. These songs are timeless classics which hearken back to a simpler era, the inspiration for her both at the beginning of her career in her teenage years and today. Patty is true to the original artists. For the uninitiated, Patty Loveless is pure country; this is not some genre-bending "updating" of these classics. She's just interpreted them with her own style, making them "her's." I appreciate the sadder songs the most, like the title track, "There Stands the Glass," and "I've Forgotten More Than You'll Ever Know." They draw me back to Patty's music again and again. The blend of the instrumental masters with members of Patty's band on this record adds authenticity to this project, though Patty and Emory don't really need it. They've proven their credibility many times.
I'm so happy that Patty and producer/husband Emory have made these classics available for a new audience. I am one; I've always been a fan of Patty's music but I'm not even close to steeped in country tradition the way she is. So this is an education as well. I believe Patty did this project to reinvigorate her work, to get back to basics. After some personal disappointment surrounding her last CD, "Dreamin'" she felt the need to rediscover why she got into the business in the first place. So, whether these songs bring back memories for you or you're new to all of them, this collection is a classic country lover's dream come true.
Free Music Review: These Nights Really Are Sleepless Hit: 5 Stars
My girl wanted tickets to see Patty when she was in our town in October. So, I bought a couple of good ones and they hung on the refrigerator for a couple of months until the day of the show.
Understand that I liked Patty just fine before the show. She wasn't Emmylou, but good, good, good. I didn't even know about "Sleepless Nights" when we walked through the doors of the Carolina Theater. "That's All it Took" lived up to it's name and more. I kept hearing these fine old songs and kept thinking "Where did this come from?"
No kidding, we went home from the show, turned on the computer and downloaded the record. Burned it, put it in the car, and listened to it for THREE WEEKS straight. It's true. Every song is a gem. Even Emmylou's song, and nobody (but Patty now) can sing Emmylou. Almost all of these tunes are the best versions of the songs that I've ever heard.
I've heard it said that you can tell how good a girl country singer is by counting how many syllables she can make out of a one syllable word. It's a good test and by this and every other measure Patty Loveless is great. Buy two copies just in case you lose one or like someone enough to give them one.
Free Music Review: IF YOU WANT COUNTRY GOLD FIRST CLASS, THEN READ ON....... Hit: 5 Stars
I stopped listening to 98% of country music in 1988. The New York and
California "bi-shots" loved money over quality. They programmed the public to listen to so-called modern country with "rigged-electronic" sounds that has make modern country no less than horrible at its best. But with a few heroes left like Alan Jackson and Patty Loveless.....WOW! I feel we are returning to the roots of making America greater.
You must get this CD. It is the best music Patty has done in years. You will love every song by one of the greats of traditional country soul. If she and Linda Ronstadt could do a duet album and sing together, that would really be something. PATTY, and others,..please, please put out more of this great music. Help us who are sick of today's country radio
that plays noise. We want great music. This CD is worth $ 50.00 and more.
Get it while it's available. It is great. Thanks Patty!! Thanks to Amazon.com for making this product available!! Order your copy today! You
won't be disappointed if you like genuine honesty and pure country GOLD!
Free Music Review: Sleepless Nights a Winner Hit: 5 Stars
Patty Loveless digs way back into country music history with her latest album, Sleepless Nights. Somewhat like Martina MacBride's Timeless, Loveless treats the old tunes respectfully and still leaves her stamp on them. It's country--no mixture of pop at all--with lots of steel guitar and generally spare arrangement. Doing so lets the song and Patty's powerful, unpretentious voice be the focus.
There are several George Jones tunes, some Porter and Dolly, Hank Williams, and Webb Pierce. "There Stands the Glass" is an unexpected treat, and her treatment of "The Pain of Loving You" has Patty Loveless classic written all over it. She's not doing any "sound-alikes" on this album--they're all her! But she's also not reinventing the songs. Rather, she's remaining true to the songs and to herself, and it's a wonderful blend.
If you're looking for something revolutionary, this is not it. If you're looking for REAL country music, this is it. Forget the Top 40. This is someone who knows what country is and how it's to be done. And Patty has never sounded better.
Free Music Review: The hills are alive with the sound of heartache Hit: 5 Stars
Why don't they play Patty Loveless on the radio? I have every one of her CDs and Sleepless Nights simply continues the tradition of top notch song selection, production and that voice. The siren of the hills. Every tone is filled with some sort of heartache & agony. Its like driving through the country at night and looking up into the dark hills. That is the sound of Patty Loveless' voice. I was so afraid this CD would be just another vanity project of standards. However Patty & Emory have chose great songs (big hits and some minor ones too). You can tell they chose these songs because the lyrics say something to them. Patty has made me hear these songs in a new light and some for the first time. She may not want to, but she now OWNS every song on this CD. I really love Crazy Arms. BUY THIS CD.
