Patty Loveless lends her extraordinary voice to many of the best country classics ever made. The result is simply one of three of the best cover albums ever produced. The other two are Martina McBride's Timeless and Livin', Lovin', Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers. It is a beautiful album by the best that country has to offer. Patty Loveless is the greatest woman country singer of the "New Traditional" era and her approach to these country classics is near perfect. Patty Loveless is the Ella Fitzgerald of country music. Just like Ella recorded the American pop songbooks of material that other singers had done, Patty does the classic country songbook--or at least a small sample of it-- to equally great effect. The arrangements and production fit the material perfectly.
The album really gets going in the middle. The four-in-a-row combination of "Crazy Arms," "There Stands The Glass, "That's All It Took" and "Color of the Blues" is stunning. Patty's renditions stand right alongside the classic originals.

This is Patty Loveless at her VERY best!! This CD could have been "just another cover version of country classics" ..BUT Patty takes each song ...and makes it her own.She was born to sing this music..A particular standout is her duet with Vince Gill.. the title cut"Sleepless Nights"...a little known Everly Brohter's minor hit..This song is haunting...and her record company should release this one as a single and video IMMEDIATELY..It's an instant classic.."He Think's I still Care" is flawless..AND "Cold.. Cold..Heart" done by so many in the past stands the test of time..with Patty's haunting vocals..Run..don't walk...and get this CD right now..

This is in my opinion the most beautiful grouping of songs by this country songstress since "Mountian Soul". I love the traditional country music as it brings back wonderful times of my youth and the sounds of my parents as they sang many of these same songs. Patty's voice is unmatchable in this selection; her sounds of realisim of a hard life and of loves gone wrong are simply inspiring. Unlike the younger "kids" now on the stage, Patty allows the listener to believe she has lived what she sings and mellowingly speaks to you. A real hit and I hope she has more in store for her fans.Free Music Review: this is perfection

choice of songs from so many but please keep releasing these songs.
