Free Music Notes for Get Out of My YardFree Music Review: Get out of his yard. Hit: 5 StarsBeing the first all instrumental album by Paul Gilbert. I have to say that he did a very ballin job. I really enjoyed this CD.
Free Music Review: Simply Amazing Hit: 5 StarsIm a huge fan of Paul and i am happy to see him put out a CD of this instrumental type. There are many people doing instrumental music but Pauls is exciting and fun to listen to. He gives you exactly what a shred lover wants. PLAY MORE!!! :) I am also in awe of his bass lines and sound!! Paul has mastered the Sheehan tone perfectly. I think Paul does Billy's recorded sound better than Billy! At that is no small feat! Anyway do yourself a favor and pick it up. You wont be disapointed.
Free Music Review: Gilbert Burns the Instrumental Guitar Hit: 5 StarsGet Out of My Yard (2006) was Paul Gilbert's first all instrumental outing. The album does not let the listener down from top to bottom. On the disc, Gilbert showcases his guitar skills by presenting lyrical hard rockin' songs which you can actually listen to -- he does not noodle all over the place showing how great he is; rather, he moves from one song to the next and plays with total virtuosity. If you like this album, Gilbert's 2008 all instrumental disc, Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar, is recommended.
Free Music Review: Great Album! Hit: 5 StarsI am a huge Satriani fan, and like most people interested in this album am a long time guitar shredder. However, I am very picky when it comes to instrumental guitar albums, quite frankly most of it does not stand up compositionally.
This album is different. Its got a sense of humor, it blazes, its got range. Did I mention it blazes!? (Imagine what would happen if Yngwie Malmsteen started taking himself less seriously and started exploring other musical forms.)
Paul is playing in a power trio, the tone is honest and dry with very little production tricks. He uses odd time signatures and non-traditional song structures. This is progressive, jazzy, but it still just rocks.
The only thing that lets the album down a bit is that there are a few tracks in the middle that arent as compelling as some of the other standout tracks. This gives guitar fans more to chew on, but the album does not flow as well as it could. (This is like an "extended realese" version of your favorite DVD with some scenes that wouldnt normally make it to the theatre.) IMO, he should have dropped "Marine Layer", "Twelve Twelve", and "Haydn Symphony 88".
The rest is brilliant.
Free Music Review: One of the Very Best Hit: 5 StarsPeople ask me "who is the best guitarist, who is your favorite???" I have always had a hard time there. I enjoy so many different styles. I have some favorites, sure, but there are players I see in local clubs that are amazing as well..... The other day I grabbed this CD off the shelf, took it into the car and was absolutley blown away. Simply put, Paul Gilbert is one of my favorites and one of the very "best" guitar players that ever walked this planet. Buy this CD, sit back and enjoy. It is really exceptionally versatile and awesome!!!!! It's so much more than simply another METAL instrumental [shredder - I hate that label....], it spans styles and is totally unique.....GET IT!!!!!!!!!
