Free Music Notes for Silence Followed by a Deafening RoarFree Music Review: Paul gilbert rocks my socks off Hit: 5 Stars
With "Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar" Paul Gilbert combines the best "hot licks" from old school rock n' roll with shredding that will melt your face off. His tone, while simple and primal, is honest and unprocessed; a sound which complements his playing perfectly. I love that you can hear every pick stroke, every nuance of his playing so clearly. Gilbert injects a sense of joy and fun into his compositions (even without his funny lyrics) that, while familiar, is also fresh. This album has it all; fans of blues, classic rock, metal, progressive, neo-classical/shred, pop, and anything else you can imagine, will all find tracks to love here. This is Gilberts' most complete musical statement, and one of the best instrumental guitar albums ever made. Hats off to Paul Gilbert; a great teacher, songwriter, singer, technical innovator, and one of the finest guitarists who ever lived.
Free Music Review: Paul Gilbert is simply THE MAN. Hit: 5 Stars
It's a shame that musicians that are as brilliant as Paul Gilbert aren't held in the same regard here in the US as they are in the far east. Instead, we have Britney Spears to adore here.
I have all of Paul's material, except for Racer X stuff. I'm not a huge metalhead - I love a good rock album though, and Paul *always* delivers. This guy is a genius, and a technical marvel on the guitar.
I only wish he would tour the US - I would pay to see him many times over. I've even considered venturing to CA to see a show of his, because he only seems to play out that way.
I can't recommend this record, or any solo record of Paul's highly enough!!
And - if you're a Paul Gilbert fan and also appreciate the Beatles, look for 'Yellow Matter Custard' as well. It's Paul Gilbert playing a whole night of Beatles tunes with other greats.
Free Music Review: Amazing As Always Hit: 5 Stars
As always, Paul Gilbert gets better with each album he puts out. But this instrumental CD goes way beyond expectations, w/11 amazing tracks that wind and bend in and out of genres, complex times changes, and breathtaking solos. It seems Paul has been woodshedding a little harder these past months since 'Get Out Of My Yard'(a great album as well...), especially in the bending/vibrato department. But the compositions, guitar tone(so many great and varied ones...), and amazing soloing make for something even better; Heavy on both technique and feel, Paul captures the mood perfectly for each song. And while many songs changes gears quickly, nothing ever seems forced or out of place; Everything sounds like a natural transition, and Paul sounds as though his playing is effortless. Truly jaw-dropping as well as inspirational. Great drums and bass, too.
Free Music Review: Oh my freaking god Hit: 5 Stars
I was a little apprehensive when I got this CD even though I knew of Paul from Mr. Big and the Racer X days. I had never really appreciated or listened to any of his work closely.
This CD is simply amazing. Frankly I think this is the best instrumental guitar album I've ever heard. I am a huge Satriani and Vai fan but to be honest they haven't really grabbed me in quite a while.
This CD showcases many different styles of music, and I hear bits of Beck, Vai, Petrucci, Lifeson, Morse.. but don't get me wrong. Paul definitely has his own extremely unique style. I've never really heard an album in this genre that was so diverse, at times shred, funk, blues, jazz, rock, space guitar.
DO NOT THINK TWICE get this CD!
Free Music Review: Thanks Amazon Hit: 5 Stars
I would like to take a moment to thank Amazon for taking three days ship my Paul Gilbert through Amazon Prime. Thanks to them, this album has been out for three days I am am still not listening to it. Those of you who have this album, please enjoy it for me. Maybe I'll receive mine in time for his next album to come out. I get Joe Satriani's new album a day early and I don't really even like it. Sorry everyone for using these review sections for ranting but I have been waiting for this album to come out for well over a year. It's hard to sit here and get the shaft when everyone is saying how good this album is. It's the coolest thing to get an album on the day it comes out, especially this one. Well, back to dreaming about myself listening to this album.
