I'll be honest...I have always admired Paul as a briliant guitar player and I have always bought his solo material. It was always a spiritual experience.
This CD is simply amazing...I agree with the other opinions posted here...but I just want to add that as an purely instrumental CD...this is the most lyrical PG has been without singing a single word. The emotion and feeling behind every note is simply brilliant.
Long live this CD and I would have to say probably my favorite CD of his.
If you love PG's previous efforts...this one will make you jump up and down in excitement, laugh, and cry.
NOW GO BUY IT!

Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar (2008) is a powerful rock instrumental album by Paul Gilbert. Throughout the entire collection, Gilbert shows his mastery of the guitar and mastery of writing songs which both have kick and are still lyrical in quality. If you love instrumental guitar, you can't get much better than Gilbert's skills. The production quality throughout is outstanding. This is Gilbert's second all instrumental album, if you like it, I recommend you check out his previous disc, Get Out of My Yard (2006).Free Music Review: Still Smoking , Still Smart

Liked this CD a lot , Paul only gets better year after year ,
I was Really Thrilled to hear his cover of the Elvis Costello /Burt Bacherach tune ( Still have that other girl in my head ).. that was the stand out tune for me On the Elvis release, so to hear Paul cover it was something really great..
Paul earns Mucho Mucho respect from me , for this choice alone , It's so good it can be done Instrumentally and sound amazing ..
All the tunes are good and show Paul"s still in his prime,
hope he selects other interesting covers in the Future.
I could suggest about 10..

Pauls new CD SBADR is amazing! It is an accomplishment beyond many records out there. Compositionally speaking this is his best work! GOOMY is great but this is the icing on the cake of growth by Paul. He can do anything & it shows very gracefully on this record! The record is shorter but much better written & in your face from beginning to end! And his band is amazing! They are the perfect line-up to back Paul! Don't waste your time reading all of reviews though. Just buy it & Crank it up!

Paul Gilbert is a freak of nature. From shred guitar to power ballads to classical to pop rock - this guy has it all covered. This is a great year for fans of instrumental guitar music with many awesome albums already released but Paul Gilbert stands above the pack for overall intensity. He just nails everything he does and has a great attitude to music in general and is one of the few guys who is always pushing the envelope and trying something different. Get this a soon as you can and marvel at a legendary guitar player.
