Free Music Notes for Back in the U.S. Live 2002Free Music Review: Very good live album Hit: 5 Stars
Paul McCartney has every right to put his name first in the songwriting credits. Based on the book "Beatlesongs," by William J. Dowdling, of the 19 Lennon/McCartney songs on this album, 13 of them were written by Paul alone, with NO help from John. So therefore, John's name really shouldn't be on many of those at all. (By the way, "Beatlesongs" is a great book, showing you the true authorship of each song, in percents.). And he plays the songs very well live, too. The sound quality on these recordings is a lot better than the live tracks on the Beatles Anthology albums, and miles better than on the CD "Last Night in Hamburg." The only song he sort of messes up is "Something," on which he plays something that sounds like a ukelele or a banjo. He sings it faster and more upbeat than the recording on "Abbey Road." Other than that, it's a good album, and Yoko should find something important to worry about instead of fussing over John's name being second.
Free Music Review: You say goodbye, I say hello Hit: 5 Stars
I am a serious Beatles/McCartney fan and collector. I attended two of Paul's shows in 2002. They were both really good shows, and this CD is among the best concert CDs in my collection. Age seems to do Paul McCartney good. He can still rock out, and can sing beautifully. Much of the music here is from the '60s, including a few songs that he had never played live before. The new material comes through strong for the most part. On the whole a fine concert by Sir Paul. There is one piece of bad news: although every song in the concert is presented, all of the chatter between songs has been deleted. This means his enthousiastic greeting ("We have come to rock you tonight!"), his passionate words for John and George, the band introductions, and the humorous stories behind some songs (those of you who attended these shows will know what I'm talking about) are all missing. But the music is excellent, and Paul will probably never do another tour like this one, so enjoy.
Free Music Review: No wonder we loved the beatles!! Hit: 5 Stars
Paul McCartney has put together an amazing live performance. Over the years his voice has acquired depth, range & resonance, and he's filled it with a dynamic energy & vitality which for a 60 year old guy is nothing short of awe inspiring. This CD gives you plenty of bang for your buck with 34 songs that leave you longing for even more. (After the Sgt. Peppers track I kept hearing "Fixing a Hole", but maybe that was the hole in my head). The back up band is tremendously competent & tight, and faithfully reproduces some of the coolest Beatles songs (sometimes dare I say it they sound even better!!). Paul has added great character to some of the songs with various vocal doo-dads that he has perfected over the years. I can only imagine what the Beatles would have sounded like togehter if John, George & Ringo could have joined Paul, (the harmonies just weren't of the same symbiotic quality) but sadly that will never happen. Bravo Maestro PAUL!!
Free Music Review: Wow! Hit: 5 Stars
I went to a concert on this amazing tour with my dad and it was incredible. I love the Beatles and Wings and spent most of the concert thunderstruck at the thought that I was actually listening to PAUL McCARTNEY play songs like Band on the Run, Eleanor Rigby, Blackbird and so many other amazing and legenadary songs.Whether you enjoyed the live show as I did or are just a fan who missed the opportunity, you should get this album. It is the exact set-list of the concert, in order, so it is almost like being there (but not really). Since I saw the second leg of the tour and some people saw the first leg, they will hear songs that Paul didn't sing at their show. Vanilla Sky and Mother Nature's Son were not played on the 2nd portion and She's Leaving Home (and probably something else) was not played on the first part. So, sit back, relax and listen to the greatest Beatles, Wings and solo songs written by Paul McCartney in one great album adventure.
Free Music Review: McCartney At His Very Best Hit: 5 Stars
Over the past forty years, Paul McCartney has written fifty or more great pop songs, and hundreds more of generally high quality. On this two CD live concert set, McCartney sings 34 of his very best songs. And, he sings just one song by another artist: George Harrison's "Something".The high quality of the performance brings together songs written decades apart, such as "I Saw Her Standing There", "Let It Be", and "Driving Rain", and make them part of a whole: the life's work of one of the greatest writers of pop songs of all time. McCartney and his band do faithful versions of each song, yet many of them get an added edge and energy compared with the studio versions. The high quality of the music, and the bargain price for almost two hours of prime McCartney make this a "Must Have" for all Beatles and McCartney fans.
