Free Music Notes for Memory Almost Full - CD/DVD Deluxe Edition

Free Music Review: Little Late... Still an amazing album
Hit: 5 Stars

To say this album is bad or even not listen-able is foolish. One has to make a conscience effort not to like Memory Almost Full. Right off the bat the listener is reminded of McCartney's first solo effort with Dance Tonight, which is simplistic, uplifting and honest. Next, Ever Present Past hits with the punch of an instant classic not unlike My Brave Face or even Band On The Run. This song deserves air play! See Your Sunshine is a wonderful love song that is lyrically, one of the better songs from McCartney's catalogue. By the end of track three the audience has been given a lesson in Macca history with just solo McCartney sounds. When Mama Only Knows sounds, the audience is transported to the heyday of Wings with a number that truly rocks. After the adrenaline rush left over from Only Mama Knows, Macca slows things down with the contemplative You Tell Me. Not one of the better tracks but better than a lot of the songs in McCartney's catalogue. Next track that is sequenced is Mr. Bellamy which is essentially this album's Eleanor Rigby. This is probably the best song on the album. Gratitude comes next with a soulful passion that sounds like it would have fitted perfectly on Chaos And Creation In The Backyard and ends the first part of the album.
What's next is a sequence of songs that Macca hasn't attempted since Red Rose Speed Way (his fourth solo project, and second with Wings). Though this isn't as memorable as the sequence of songs that appeared on Abbey Road's latter, the songs themselves are no less than great songs. The most interesting one being Feet In The Clouds which sounds very much to be like as if it were from Abbey Road. The album ends with a song that questions McCartney's death and how he would want people to react. The End Of The End is a song that is sorrowful and yet hopeful. Other than Mr. Bellamy, this is the best song on the album. But! If that leaves the audience depressed, Macca rocks them to the top with Nod Your Head. The song is just another rocker that is fun to listen to. Memory Almost full is not how some people feel, a disappointing follow up to Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, it's just different. It is full to the brink of five star material and is actually more consistent than the former. Definatley one of my favorite of Mr. McCartney's albums.

The bonus tracks are a nice addition; i.e. Why So Blue, In Private, and 222. But what one is really buy are the videos of the live performances and the two music videos. They don't really add anything, and it would have been more appropriate to have release this edition at the same time as the others.

Free Music Review: You have to say 5 stars, but really, it's more of the same. Why didn't they do this the 1st time out?
Hit: 5 Stars

You have to say 5 stars, but really, it's more of the same. Why didn't they do this the 1st time out? So now we know they could have included the other songs left for disc two of the first set on disc 1. We also know they could have at least given us the first video on a DVD the first time out as well. Then, they could have given us these videos on the McCartney Years Collection of videos also being released.

As much as I have spent on Paul over the years, I get disappointed at what he could have done instead of what he actually does. Same with the Beatles. Some fans complain about Yoko's releases of John's stuff, yet every new release is an improvement over the last release. Also they usually give you more than you expected. Considering how much McCartney has to offer, he has lived longer than John or George, and recorded for most of those years, they are only offering a 3 disc set? This won't sell to most average fans. This is for me and other hard core fans of McCartney who have an old VHS copy of his James Paul McCartney special from the early 70s replayed and taped (poorly) in early 1980 on VHS. So we are expecting more!

The lies they spread over the years are bizzare. They made a big deal of Paul singing Beatles songs for the first time yada yada yada....after breaking up of the group. Well, watch James Paul McCartney and hear him sing Yesterday, Michelle and Blackbird in 1973. This predates his singing of Yesterday and Blackbird during RockShow concerts in 1975-76.

It's amazing to me he doesn't add a couple discs or volumes, put the whole RockShow concert on DVD, with Wings Over America. Then put the James Paul McCartney TV special out as well. If he thinks they are awful, well, they are not. They were very fun to watch and have a very nice mood about them. It was the one place until All The Best came out on CD in 1987 where I could hear and see C-Moon played.

But this set is nice, it's just the 3rd set of the same thing this year. This time plus a little more. A bit unfair to charge so much. We should get a trade in offer, or coupon to order the missing disc.

Otherwise, this set is a great buy for what it is!

Free Music Review: McCartney creates on hell of a catchy and enjoyable pop-rock album
Hit: 5 Stars

The Good
Despite its mixture of folk guitar (possibly ukulele) and washboard percussion, "Dance Tonight" is quite the catchy tune. You've probably heard it in an iTunes commercial. The lyrics are simple and to-the-point. "Ever Present Past" has more of a rock vibe to it, with its electric guitars and driving rhythms. "Only Mama Knows" begins with a long string section that is slowly replaced with a killer guitar lick. The track continues at a fevered paced with subtle chugga-chugga riffs and forceful vocals. Who knew Paul still had it in him?

McCartney kicks into his signature falsetto on "You Tell Me." The track echoes material that might have appeared on the Sgt. Pepper's album. "Vintage Clothes" is a little dated in its sound, but it seems somewhat appropriate for the lyrical content. "That Was Me" has a great percussive bounce to it. "House of Wax" is a powerful track full of musical emotion. It's almost epic in its delivery.

The Bad
There are a couple of tracks I would classify for "fans only."

The Verdict
I was never really a fan, or enemy for that matter, of The Beatles music or their respective solo work. McCartney's last album, 2005's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard left me decision-less, due to the lack of what I would deem "new fan" appealing material. However, after listening to Memory Almost Full, I can come to a distinct conclusion. From beginning to end, McCartney creates on hell of a catchy and enjoyable pop-rock album. It's no wonder this guy's a legend.

Free Music Review: YOUR CHOICE TO BUY IT OR NOT
Hit: 5 Stars

about reading these reviews bad mouthing this reissue. its your choice to re buy it. i love the cd and if you purchase this edition at amazon at 11.99 the dvd is worth it. it seems in dvds paul is offering some chronolgy of his recording career. it started with wingspan. i think he realizes his contribution to the music of the past is important. a lot of this im sure is for historical purposes. i do wish the full show would have been on this dvd but hey its paul...he doesnt need the money. he says hes doing it cuz he loves it. its up to you whether you want to buy it. i bought it im satisfied. hes 65 now and we should appreciate that hes still out there doing good things and preaching positive messages.

Free Music Review: Best yet?
Hit: 5 Stars

This might be McCartney's best album yet.

Some songs show shades of past McCartney glory ("Only Mama Knows," "Vintage Clothes"), but some are incredibly orginal to Sir Paul ("House of Wax" "dance Tonight"). The jazz influences, specifically on the bonus tracks ("In Private" and "222") are absolutely wonderful. Maybe he'll come out with an entire jazz CD?!

I've already told my daughter that she should play "The End of the End" at my funeral. What a fantastic tribute song.

Only "Nod Your Head" does absolutely nothing for me and I actually skip the track when playing this disc in my car.

This one is worth picking up.
