Free Music Review: Listen To What This Young Man Said
Hit: 5 Stars

I am eighteen and have been a Beatles fan for only a few years. As a result of being a new fan my opinion is not based on years of fond memories with Pauls older and most excellent material but purly on the music as a whole. With that in mind I will give you what I think is an honest review with a few comparisons. I can honestly say that the music on this album really is good. Compared to Chaos its a much more upbeat album and lyricaly more thought provoking. Its a lot better than Driving Rain and more enjoyable than Flaming Pie. It totally blows his eighties material out of the water and its on par with Band On the Run, Ram, and McCartney except for the fact that his vocals arent as smooth. His vocals are better sounding to me than Driving Rain though. I found myself forgetting that I was listening to a 64 year old. Im sure that was obvious to anyone within a mile of my car since I was playing it louder than the gangsters play their ummm stuff (it sure isnt music ha). The only song that I would consider filler is Gratitude. The songs House of Wax, Ever Present Past, Mr. Bellamy, Only Mamma Knows, Nod Your Head and End of the End are excellent songs that stand their ground against anything Paul has done since the first three years after The Beatles split. Are any of these songs better than his Beatles material??? I cant say they are better than his best songs with them because that would be a lie, but I will probably listen to these more than any of his other solo stuff. All and all this is a breath taking album when you consider that youre listening to a 64 year old. Its a really good album compared to classic rock in general and its the very best album you could possibly imagine when compared to todays music. I hope this was of some use to those of you who have been discouraged from the harsh reviews from apparently deaf listeners. Peace, Stephen

Free Music Review: Macca's still got it after all these years
Hit: 5 Stars

I just received the new disc and wanted to post a few comments since it's been out a couple weeks or so to much critical praise & media blitz. I figured "Chaos & Creation..." would be maybe the highest point Sir Paul would reach at this stage of the game - boy, was I ever wrong! There are very Beatlesque moments here and there ("Mr. Bellamy" is one terrific example), and wonderfully melodic tracks that could have been on a Wings album or two ("Only Mama Knows", "See The Sunshine" - how 'bout that Beatle-y bass work!). Memory Almost Full is the first release on which his present band members play (wonderfully) as his backing band in the studio (actually "Driving Rain" had them on several tracks but they were pretty much unknown studio sidemen on that one). The most obvious point about "Memory Almost Full" is the quality of the melodies and production: along with Chaos & Creation, McCartney hasn't sounded this creative in several decades but as good as that one was, "Memory" is the superior release as it has the renewed sense of creativity found on C & C but with a brighter & punchier production with a "band sound" in the tradition of his best 70's works with Wings, and prior albums. This album is a McCartney career high mark, totally unexpected at this stage of his game. He still writes hooks & curvy melodies like no one else in the business. As for the bonus track I was going to mention, it's "Why So Blue" on the bonus disc - it should have been on the proper album because it's as good a track as any on Memory Almost Full and a damn great song, period. I never expected to hear a composition this great from Paul McCartney again - amazing stuff! In closing, please don't let the handful of negative reviews here dissuade you from buying this - I've been listening to Paul's solo career since 1970 and believe me, this album is a classic.

Free Music Review: Paul McCartney as usual: Entertaining, optimistic and lovely
Hit: 5 Stars

The first song that impressed me was "Ever Present Past". It reminded me of "No Reply" (1964) and later I found that it's really fun to listen to. Colorful and entertaining. And the second song that pricked up my ears was "Mister Bellamy". Wow! To me, this one is absolutely the best song on the album. It sounds distinctively different and invokes deep thoughts. And "The End Of The End"... well again what I hear is a great composition. Simply great... In the middle of this song as Paul whistles I cannot help remembering John Lennon in 70's. "Dance Tonight" contains an excellent guitar solo in the middle, which might remind you of the guitars in "Bogey Music" (1980), which is one of my favorite Paul songs. I like the "Vintage Clothes", too. It's fun and gives me joy without trying hard (which is regularly the case in most of the Beatles songs :) And the "Feet In Clouds"... it's entertaining to listen to the "very very very" in these hot summer days. With respect to its expression style, it's like a slowed down version of "Young Boy" in Flaming Pie with its synthesized vocals reminiscent of the vocals in "Seal - Kiss from a rose (1995)". "Only Mama Knows" is like the Wings songs and it's also good. "House of the Wax" sounds like the piano based songs in "Tug Of War (1982)" album and it's the only one which differs in terms of its style: It's more rocking heavy with its guitars and its performance. "You Tell Me" is a good acoustic guitar song which I like to listen when I'm contemplating. "That Was Me" is simply as entertaining as the other Beatles songs. Only two songs, "See Your Sunshine" and "Gratitude" are not as good as the others or at least I perceive them so. But they can never prevent the album from being a good and successful album.

Free Music Review: You Tell Me
Hit: 5 Stars

You tell me after you listen...let's see, a least three times through. The best thing I can say about this album is this: If I had never heard of Paul McCartney nor the Beatles, I would like this effort. If you like light alternative, like you hear on satelite radio, you'll dig this album. This is a continuation of Paul letting himself be himself. It's Paul making no effort to try and write a hit for radio. It's Paul doing what he likes to do, like an Abbey Road medley, or Red Rose Speedway, Back To The Egg. It's Paul letting go on his bass on "See Your Sunshine" or making up fictional people on "Mr. Bellamy". If your a Wings fan you'll love "Only Mamma Knows" there is a point in this song I was expecting Paul to say "lay me down Jimmy" and hear the late JM tear into a guitar solo remenescent of "Junior's Farm". Make sure you buy the Deluxe Limited Edition. It has 3 songs that are killer, if you liked Paul's first solo effort (referred to as Bowl of Cherries) buy us fans, you'll want these tracks plus enjoy Paul talking about the album.
This is a stellar effort from a 64 year old man who has already done it all musically but who will at age 75 be able to look back and say, yeh, that was me, nominated for grammys at age 65, having a baby girl when I was 61, coloring my hair and admitting it, singing about God and proud of it, still loving Linda, John, George, Ringo, all my kids and yes even Heather. If you asked Paul what, in his opinion, was his greatest accomplishment? I think he'd say, making a home and having a family, his music is just the soundtrack to his life. Aren't you glad he shared the music, it's our soundtrack too!
But, you tell me

Free Music Review: Plenty of "Perk" for the "Pop" of Pops.
Hit: 5 Stars

This is now Sir Paul's twenty-second solo album to date. If you include the Beatle albums (British discography), he made a total of 38--that's not including his days before the Beatles when he sang in the "Cavern".

Okay there were a few Thanksgiving turkeys in the flock, the worst being "Wild Life" back in the early 70s, but as a whole, most of the albums he made were genuine works of art. His career even surpasses that of the classical composers...and he was knighted by the Queen to add to that.

In "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard", it seemed Paul was finally feeling his age and was fading away. The songs of that album were rather slow and drab, with the exception of the title track and "This Never Happened Before": the track chosen for the Sandra Bullock movie "The Lakehouse".

Well, wake up ladies and gentlemen! Paul signed a contract with a record label owned by Starbuck's Coffee and has just made an album with plenty of "perk". The caffeine in this album will keep you dancing the night away... well with one exception. The song "Gratitude" was the sour milk of the album. The rest of the album, however, was a wonderful smooth latte.

I say it's the top of the pops for the "pop" of "perk". Paul is the elder statesman who is the "pop" and his album has got the "perk".

To borrow a line from an old tune, yes, we will still need you, we will still feed you, even at sixty-four..... and older.
