Free Music Review: A Time Capsule of Fresh Air
Hit: 5 Stars

The Sound Garden is a small but wonderful musical oasis in Palatka Florida, and I try to drop in when I'm in the area to get the latest top pick from Jeff and Mike. On my last visit Jeff was almost speechless about "New Train", and after listening to it for several weeks now, I find it hard to craft words that do it justice. It is such a wonderful blast of fresh air from my favorite musical era, the early seventies, like opening a time capsule and finding something that is at the same time infused with the magic that was rock and roll in that time, but also relevant, refreshing and totally enjoyable now. Pena displays a remarkable versatility, and it is such a shame his talent has been hidden all this time. I saw mention of a new album; I for one can't wait! John Henry

Free Music Review: Paul Pena IS BACK!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've known Paul Pena personally since 1973. In fact, I met him during the time this album was being recorded. I've listened to it on a tape he gave me way back then, and am absolutely thrilled that it's finally been released. I was first taken by Paul's incredible voice back in '72 when I heard him on the radio, and had to have his first album. That voice, along with his amazing writing ability, his better-than-Clapton guitar playing, and an unbelievable ensemble of guest musicians, make this new (old) collection a must-have. I received my copy from Amazon today, and am grinning from ear to ear after having listened to it in its new, wonderful, CD-quality glory. I'm so very happy for Paul for having finally released this music, and I'm so happy for me for owning it!

Free Music Review: Great Find
Hit: 5 Stars

I discovered this release by chance and was pleasantly surprised. Originally released in 1974, Paul Pena offers a nice wide-ranging mix of pop, rock, folk, and blues material. Highlights include: "Gonna Move," "Jet Airliner," "Venutian Lady," and the title track, and I especially like the Jimi Hendrix influenced "Cosmic Mirror." Paul Pena is a rich vocalist with a style that was a clear prototype for Lenny Kravitz. Though some may find a few of the tunes dated, I find them refreshing and reminiscent of a time when music was free from the contrived baggage so often found in modern pop music. This is one of those rare albums you will find to be a satisfying listen to from beginning to end.

Free Music Review: A rare treasure!
Hit: 5 Stars

Since the movie "Genghis Blues" won an Academy Award nomination, Paul Pena's name has become familiar to a lot of people. But what many don't know is that Paul's extraordinary talents as a musician and songwriter have been recognized and honored by other musicians for many years; he's one of those rare guitarists who can play anything from classical flamenco to gut bucket blues, and his vocal range is just as impressive. This album, recorded but not released in 1973, showcases some of his many original songs, including the original version of "Jet Airliner". Even if you listen only to this one and "Cosmic Mirror", you'll get more than your money's worth with this CD!

Free Music Review: lost classic is rightfully released (finally!!)
Hit: 5 Stars

Paul Pena is an intelligent blues player (he's also blind, for those who don't know) and this collection of powerful blues songs attest to his perseverance and skill at overcoming his personal obstacles to create wonderful music. I was also particularly excited when I found out that Jerry Garcia was playing on these tracks, which sealed the deal for me. THis is one of the best new releases in a long time, it is a classic album, and if you are a fan of classic rock and blues you absolutely need this cd. As others have said, its a gem. Also, Paul's song "jet airliner" absolutely kills the steve miller cover version!
