Free Music Notes for One ChanceFree Music Review: Simply bliss Hit: 5 Stars
I'm going to jump on the Paul Potts bandwagon as well and throw my extra cents in. I feel this man has an exceptionally beautiful spirit and it totally comes through when he sings. I admit that I can hear that his voice is not perfect and I can see that true opera aficionados might poo poo him, however, he does have a beautiful voice and he affects my heart and being as much as the pros do. So I don't care what negative reviews there might be.
I do prefer the songs that are not in English as his voice seems to flow much better. There are two bonus Christmas songs, sung in English, and his accent really came through while singing them, which is not bad per se, but they didn't flow for me as smoothly as his songs in Italian and Spanish did. Still, all in all, I think the man has an incredible raw talent and my heart melts like butter when I hear him sing.
My only complaint, and it's nothing to do with Paul Potts, is that I'm getting tired of the same old songs being sung by crossover artists. I feel that this CD was rushed out and because Paul Potts became recognized through a Simon Cowell venue, it seems that Paul had to go through what seems to be a cookie cutter process in which all new crossover artists must sing the same songs. Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli, Opera Babes, Sarah Brightman, and even those incredible and amazing Three Tenors, have done these songs over and over. Seriously, if I have to hear one more cover of "You Lift Me Up" I'm going to scream. I think that they can come up with some new and equally beautiful songs to sing for a change, like "Send in the Clowns," say.
I feel that Paul Pott's voice is worthy of singing real opera arias and would love to hear more actual opera and less easy listening music from him as I feel it's more his forte. I hope Cowell gives him that chance.
Free Music Review: New talent ---Paul Potts --Spine Tingling Joy Hit: 5 Stars
Some say only a few will buy this CD for the sentimental story of an overnight sensation from Simon Cowell's British talent show. Some hardcore opera snobs may pass, sighting technical imperfections; after all this CD was put together and released in the UK in a record-breaking 3-4 weeks to capitalize on the show's success. Others may pass, saying that they don't like opera.
I say to everyone-- get this album simply for sheer listening pleasure. There are so many moments of pure spine tingling joy here to miss for the sake of hyper-critical nit-picking. A voice imbued, even polished from life, filled with emotion and, yes, charged with physical athleticism- as demonstrated by set of lungs that can hold such notes to infinity and in perfect pitch-- is a rarity not to be missed.
Each time after reading some of the few negative reactions to Paul Potts, I go back for a listen, admittedly expecting to be disappointed, at least a little, and, each time, I am transported, by the hauntingly beautiful vocals and pure emotion captured here; emotion transmitted directly to one's heart and soul through an, as yet, undiscovered seventh sense. Technically "superior" singers can only hope for this intense, hardwired connection, whereas Paul natural ability is blessed with it is spades.
In the end, it finally dawned on me how ridiculous it is to look for third party validation for feelings that are so inexplicable, but yet so vitally undeniable. Enjoy this one folks and never mind the critics. No rules, just sublime listening pleasure. This is a fantastic debut album, with quite a variety. Hopefully the first in a long line of future recordings.
Free Music Review: Every once in awhile....... Hit: 5 Stars
Every once in awhile a person comes along that has true passion and deliverance from the soul. You can see it right away.....in this case you can hear it. The water that wells up in the corners of my eyes and the feeling of Love and Harmony in my soul are unleashed in a fury of passion. When Paul sings I can feel his music......that is special. Whenever you can feel the passion from another......it is a very special occasion. A rare occasion in our short lives.
I think many folks delve to deeply into the technicals on many things.....music is one of them. Music is Music.....simple as that. It is an form of art and expression into the soul. When that music touches your soul YOU are hooked. The universal language from beyond antiquity. So folks....imperfection is really in the measure of some guideline set up from some....something........
In Paul Potts we have passion to such an extent his voice hammers the hair on our necks. Tears from our eyes. It makes us grab our wife and hold her close and dance giddily. Folks......THIS is what music is about! Imperfections???? I 150% disagree.....Paul Potts is perfect. Perfect to every ear that listens.
My recommendation.....listen to BOTH of Paul albums on a NICE set of headphones while sipping tea, coffee, or a nice aperitif. The songs will take you to places you have always wanted to go.....no crackle....no bad audio....just the simple pleasure of being hammered by glorious tones.
Enjoy....I know I will.
Cheers and Regards,
Don

Free Music Review: This CD Will Not Disappoint Hit: 5 Stars
I received my Import CD after following the story of Paul Potts for over 6 weeks. Although this CD was put together in less than a month after Paul Potts won the Britain's Got Talent competition it is well done. I seldom find an album worth listening to every song. This CD is different.
My favorite tracks are Nessun Dorma, Time To Say Goodbye, Caruso, Nella Fantasia, and Cavatina to name a few. I could have easily named them all. Music of the Night was another wonderful track. With the accompaniment of the London Symphony Orchestra (most songs), Paul's voice will penetrate your heart and rest in your soul.
This is not an album to use as background music, but rather to sit in an easy chair or recliner with your favorite beverage and prepare to travel to a place where the mundane activities of daily life will not matter, where you will be lifted up and set free.
The import CD has minor technical flaws but they were easy to overlook with the overall quality of this work. If you like classical, opera crossover music you will appreciate this album. If you have never listened to this type of music before then it is time to give it "One Chance" and join Paul Potts on his "bus journey to Never-Never-Land".
The domestic version of the album includes two bonus tracks, O Holy Night and Silent Night. I am looking forward to Paul's next album and seeing him perform live in concert, and in an opera if the opportunity exists.
Free Music Review: For us music lovers... Hit: 5 Stars
OK... first of all, let me say Paul Potts is absolutely AMAZING. This inconspicuous Brit has blasted into the headlines with his performances from the British version of American Idol... even Simon was impressed! I have read the reviews and listened to the "opera snobs" who have criticized Potts for his technical weaknesses and inexperience. Admittedly I am not, nor do I care to be, an opera critic.. but my response is, "What weaknesses!!??" I had my first exposure to Potts after surfing youtube and fell in love with his abilities after seeing him perform for the British show (by the way, if you have not actually seen Potts perform, you must do so). He's an average guy with a spectacular gift. While he may NOT be an experienced opera singer, he brings so much more to the table. This album has been criticized for not having more traditional opera songs on it... but the point these folks miss is that Potts brings mainstream music lovers to the opera world. The closest I have been to an opera fan was going to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and yet, I absolutely love this album. Potts has the ability to elicit that wonderful emotional response from his listeners and viewers who are NOT accustomed to the italian language or opera music in general...not to mention the rags to riches story behind the artist (he was a cell phone salesman before winning). For those us who are not opera fanatics, I promise you, you will NOT be disapointed with this album.
