Free Music Review: Honest and Awesome
Hit: 5 Stars

By the time 1978 had arrived,KISS were pretty much standing on top of the world...they had gold records, they had submitted their blood to comic books that had been made about them-you get the point. However, according to what Paul Stanley,Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss have said before, the cracks were just becoming harder and they were just hurting themselves without realizing it. From what I've read, it seems to me that the only friend Paul(Stanley)had in the band was Gene Simmons, while the only friend Peter Criss had in the band was Ace Frehley. This is what lead into Stanley, Simmons, Frehley, and Criss all making their four solo albums, and even though this USED to be my favorite out of the four KISS solo albums before I started to like Ace Frehley's solo album the best out of the four solo albums, this is still really amazing, and I am even listening to it as I type this. Read on for my review of this:

When Paul Stanley recorded his solo album, he kind of branched out a little bit. There is no other way to put this, and there is really no way to describe it either:This album sounds a little bit like KISS, and it also doesn't sound like KISS. By the time Paul(Stanley),Gene(Simmons), Ace(Frehley),and Peter(Criss)were making their solo albums, KISS had gained attention for albums and songs like "Beth"(their biggest hit),"Love Gun", "Rock and Roll All Nite", etc, and they had had some ballads, but there were not a dozen KISS ballads out there. With the exception of "Love In Chains", every song on here is about love. And that's not a bad thing either.Stanley may not have written "Beth", but he fairly gained the reputation at being the member of KISS who was the most talented at writing ballads, and I agree. Sure, it would have been interesting to see if Paul could pull of an album that had one portion of hard rock songs that weren't ballads and a portion of songs that were ballads, but all of the love songs on here are part of what makes this album so good. Stanley was twenty-six years old when writing the material for this album and recording it, so it's not a surprise that he wrote a lot of love songs for this record, but like I said, KISS had had some, but not too many ballads when Paul was making this album, so Paul showed with this album how good he was at writing ballads. There are several memorable moments to be found on this album. The opening track,"Tonight You Belong To Me" starts off on accoustic guitar and soft and slow vocals, then it gets to the sad and angry part of the song. Other highlights here also include "Ain't Quite Right", "Take Me Away(Together As One)", "Love In Chains", and the closing track, "Goodbye". This album has a MAJOR 70's feel to it,and it makes you wish we were still living in the 70's. Seriously, this album is that good.

From what I've seen, time has been pretty kind to this album.Paul is releasing a new album this year, and a lot of people seem to have high hopes for it, and this album is probably the reason for that. The sound on this album has been digitally remastered, there are liner notes written by Robert V. Conte about this album and what it was like for Paul Stanley and KISS when this album was released(check under the CD after you take it out), and it comes with a poster that is part of the album sheets. When the four KISS solo albums were released, this was the second most successful of the four solo albums, right after Ace's solo album. In the meantime,Gene Simmons' solo album did OK while Peter Criss' solo album, even though it sold good when it was first released, failed miserably.

I strongly recommend this album.
