As many have said, it is a "fact" that Paul Williams is a great songwriter, but he also has a wonderful voice like no one else. I first discovered Paul as a guest on Johnny Carson's "The Tonight Show". I had never heard of him, and he was a very interesting personality to watch. I liked hearing him talk, but really loved when he sang! He had a unique way of phrasing, with a wonderful soothing, mellow voice. Back then, he sang some songs that were recognized as big hits by "The Carpenter's", who were very, very popular at the time. My husband and I were surprised to find that he had written "We've only Just Begun", and many other popular songs of the era and along with our friends, became Paul Williams fans. Paul was very much in demand back in the 70's on various TV shows and we'd all go out of our way to watch anything on TV that gave us an opportunity to see him perform. We bought many of his albums and played them to death, and our babies grew up listening to Paul Williams sing, "I Am Driftwood ..Washed Upon The Shooorre"..over and over.. Along with his other great songs like, "In the Beginning", "Rainy Days and Mondays", "I Never Had It So Good, "What Would They Do", "I Wish That We Could Still Be Friends", and my favorite, "Waking Up Alone". These songs became so ingrained in our children's memories, that even now as adults they can still sing them word-for-word. We love and need our Paul Williams music, and after searching for years, I'm now happily finding Paul's CDs here on Amazon ...(Thank You Amazon!)
Paul Williams songs are like musical poetry, they stay forever in your mind, and once you hear them, you MUST hear them again!
