Free Music Review: Very underrated performer who had 8 consecutive top 10 hits!

I am not even going to suggest that Paula has the pipes of Jennifer Holliday or Patti Labelle, but Paula's strength lies not in her voice but in her carefree and energetic attitude, which came through every time she did anything. Also, Paula lasted longer than many of her counterparts because she stretched as much as she could and remained imaginative in her showmanship. Her first release was very perky, but she pushed for stronger material and specialized sounds in her second (not counting "Shut Up And Dance") release. In my opinion her third and last release was a dance masterpiece that hit the airwaves at a time when Paula's audience had moved on.

This greatest hits release gets it all right with 16 gems, including 8 consecutive top ten hits (6 of which reached number 1), but does not include her cheerful top 20 single "Will You Marry Me?" from "Spellbound." I am listening to "Rush, Rush" right now and I can't help but smile as her videos were so memorable that every song has a visual and this one reminds me of her first "adult" love song and video which included Keanu Reeves and some of the cheesiest dialogue that somehow makes you want to hug Paula as she pushed herself hard. "Blowing Kisses In The Wind" is downright sexy and her boopsie voice is as effective as many other artists who are currently enjoying strong currents of popularity. I don't think that Kylie Minogue or Janet Jackson's music succeeds due to vocals, but to the whole package and Paula had AND HAS it all. There is not a single song that is not great and this release earns 5 stars from me as it is a great example of consolidating an artist's work without missing too many key elements. Of course I would have liked to see more songs from "Head Over Heels" as I loved every song on it and feel that "Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up" is one of her very best songs.

I hope that Paula's newfound visibility gives her the desire to give us some more of her unique brand of joy. If not, you can always listen to these songs and I am sure that you'll fall in love with her as she is pure joy and these songs are pure fun. I dare anyone to listen to "Vibeology" not to have it in your head all day...... Go Paula.....
