Free Music Notes for Rearviewmirror: Greatest Hits 1991-2003Free Music Review: Best Grunge Band(Best Band of the 90's) Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent collection. Nirvana was the first of the Grunge bands to reach the masses but I feel Pearl Jam was the best of the lot though I have had moments when I felt Alice in Chains was the best. Hell, I feel there the best band from the 90's period. This is almost like a soundtrack of my 20's as so many of the songs bring back so many good memories when I hear them. I miss the grunge days. All of Pearl Jams best known songs are here. Although, there last few releases did not get alot of publicity there are still some solid songs from "no code", "yield" and "riot act" on here. Plus you get non-album tracks and soundtrack tunes like "State of Love and Trust" and "Breath". Would have been nice for "Porch" and "Glorified G" to have been included but with so many great songs to pick from they all couldn't be included. The remixed versions of "Alive" and "Black"(My personal favorite) sound great. The differences are very subtle, just enough so you notice. Overall this is a great compilation and for the price you can't beat it.
Free Music Review: Epic Records, just trying to cash in one last time Hit: 5 Stars
Don't get me wrong. I only gave this album 5 stars because I am so biased towards this band that I'm not sure if I could ever give them anything less. However, I don't really see any reason why they had to release this album. Epic was obviously trying to cash in one last time before the band left them for good.
If you are already a fan of Pearl Jam, then this album is pointless because not only do you know that there is so much brilliant material that was left off of these two discs, but you also already own all of this stuff.
If you are not a fan of Pearl Jam yet then it means you probably never will be or you are five years old and have never listened to a CD in your life. Therefore, except for the fact that this may help future generations get a little acquainted with one of the greatest rock bands of our time, I still cringe at the idea of my favorite band being the subjected to a poorly-selected "Greatest Hits" album. Please, don't hold this against them. Their music is much bigger than this.
Free Music Review: As good as it's going to get! Hit: 5 Stars
Pearl Jam is a band who, although they started out selling millions of discs, has survived as a result of their dedicated fans. A lot of their fans will certainly have problems with this compilation because it doesn't carry their personal favorites. That's always going to be a concern when it comes to bands who aren't simply "hit single-formula based." However, most bands put out greatest hits discs, and with that in mind, this is an outstanding collection! All of the big hits are here, as well as "Yellow Ledbetter," which every diehard knows. It also carries the two tracks they did for the movie "Singles," way back in 1992. Those songs, "Breath" and "State of Love and Trust," are excellent. I also like how both discs are in chronological order, with the harder stuff on disc one, the less-hard, but definitely not soft songs, on disc 2. This is a wonderful place for people who don't own any of the full-length CDs to start, and it should satisfy those of us who have been following this terrific group since 1991.
Free Music Review: A collection of Pearls. Hit: 5 Stars
Has it already been a decade? REARVIEWMIRROR is a greatest hits collection of perfect Pearls from 1991 to 2003. Pearl Jam has never sounded better, and in a world of dumbed-down radio rock, this two-cd package is proof that, long before the invention of the iPod, Pearl Jam was always on the cutting edge of rock music. There are no surprises here. Disc 1 contains the grunge: "Once," "Alive," "Even Flow," "Jeremy," "State of Love and Trust," "Animal," "Go," "Dissident," "rearviewmirror," "Spin the Black Circle," "Corduroy," "Not For You," "I Got ID," "Hail Hail," "Do the Evolution," and "Save You." Disc 2 contains the ballads: "Black," "Breath," "Daughter," "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town," "Immortality," "Betterman," "Nothingman," "Who You Are," "Off He Goes," "Given To Fly," "Wishlist," "Last Kiss," "Nothing as it Seems," "Light Years," "I am Mine," "Man of the Hour," and "Yellow Ledbetter." This is an essential collection for your iPod.

Free Music Review: Considering The Title 'Greatest Hits' Hit: 5 Stars
The difference between 'Greatest Hits' and 'The Best Of' is considerable. Greatest hits implies the most successful songs, whereas Best Of gives the artist more freedom to choose their best, in their opinion. I see many reviews complaining that PJ have always tried to defy the mainstream, and this is exactly the opposite. Well, the most successful songs would be mainstream, therefore rightly earning their place on this cd.
If this was a Best Of cd I would expect to see PJ release many songs that casual fans wouldn't know, going against the mainstream, and probably dissapointing more than this cd. Even though the 4.5 star average shows that dissapoitment is in the minority.
Simply this album contains PJ's most popular songs, mostly from their earlier hits such as Ten and Vs. To complain that PJ should have released an album with different unreleased songs is absurd, this is The Greatest Hits, not The Anti-Mainstream Hits that obviously many wanted.
