Free Music Notes for Ten (Deluxe Edition) (2CD/1 DVD)Free Music Review: great deluxe of this beautiful album Hit: 5 Stars
Although I do not understand the utility of repeating the same songs on the first CD in the second, for the rest of this deluxe edition of the first great album of Pearl Jam is very well made: the unplugged concert has been remastered very well both in audio and in videos, and even the CDs are ok. The booklet made by singer Eddie Vedder and bassist Jeff Ament is not bad.
The only flaw in the music album for me is the arrangement of the beautiful song "Black ", the first part, more relaxed, in the usual training sees the addition of keyboards, which gives it a 80s pop sound too for my taste, and in the second part of the backing vocals of bassist and guitarist I do not like that much.
For the rest of the band is perfect and had already reached maturity: the bass player in particular I love the perfect way to play his various types of bottom: fretless, 8 string and "normal" is the singer Eddy is great as usual in the texts in the voice, the drummer is one of the best the band has ever had
and guitarist sunny even better than usual
I can also say that they are the only group that I like was born and lived after the end of the '70s.
LONG LIFE TO PEARL JAM!
Free Music Review: Revisiting an Absolute Classic Hit: 5 Stars
To be perfectly honest, I've never had a problem with the production of Pearl Jam's classic debut album. It's always been a little slicker than the albums that followed, but I feel like it gave the cd its own unique texture within their catalog. But, for years, the members of Pearl Jam indicated they'd like to revisit the album, and now they have. The original cd (included here) sounds great. The "redux cd" sounds great. Brendan O'Brien's production is immediate and well-balanced. He's a great producer, and he's got a great feel for Pearl Jam, having worked with them numerous times. So, while I don't know that I'd describe it as "better" or "worse," it's another take on how the album should sound. So now there are two versions of one of the best albums of the 90s (or any decade). Cool.
Better still is the addition of extra tracks from that era and the fantastic MTV Unplugged performance on dvd.
The important thing to note is that this is a well-put-together and well-considered reissue, not just some cash-in. As a long-time fan, I'm really happy to have a new way to revisit this masterpiece.
Free Music Review: Ten Is A Perfect Ten! Hit: 5 Stars
When Grunge was king, the two bands that I followed were Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. I did not care for neither Nirvana nor Alice In Chains as I considered them both to be too loud. The album from that era that made a deep impression on me would had to have been the debut album by Pearl Jam called Ten. I listened to that album both day and night! To say it was a brilliant album would be a huge understatement! As Grunge began to fade away from television and radio, I moved on, as well. When I heard that Ten would be reissued, I considered checking it out for myself. I am thrilled that I made the wise decision to purchase it! The vocals and guitars are loud and clear and the power behind the songs are stronger than ever! I am ashamed to say that I had forgotten what a passionate voice Eddie Vedder had and what an excellent group of musicians Pearl Jam were! Now, once again, I am listening to Pearl Jam, one of the best bands to come out of my generation(x)!
Free Music Review: Re-Mix of All-Time Hit: 5 Stars
This isn't a CD review as much as it is an affirmation of the incredible job that Brendan O'Brien did in re-mixing "Ten." We all know that this piece of music which introduced the world to Pearl Jam is a masterwork. Hell, the fact that Evenflow, Alive, and Jeremy were produced on the same CD is proof of that. However, what I really want people to listen to in this collection is O'Brien's remix. Compare for yourself. Listen to the original first and then put on O'Brien's treatment. If you can't hear a staggering difference, then it's your loss. I have never heard such clarity at such volume in a mix in my life. My collection of CD's stands at about 4,000 right now and I have owned and listened to well over 10,000 releases in my lifetime. Nothing compares to the sonic feast that O'Brien's remix gives you in this release. Really, do yourself a favor and listen to this at high volume and see what it reveals to you.
Free Music Review: Worth the Money! Hit: 5 Stars
This is a package that delivers everything promised. The original album is a classic in it's own right. The remix by Brendan O'Brien gives a new spin on the album without neglecting what made it so great in the first place. The guitars are a little more prominent, the vocals are a little less muddy. On a couple of tracks, the bass line is brought more to the fore. But nothing's done with a heavy hand and you never think you're listening to a different record. It just has a little different sensibility to it. As for the DVD, I had the band's MTV Unplugged appearance on an old VHS tape, but this puts it into 5.1 and gives you a clean video. I always wondered why Pearl Jam wasn't given a full hour on Unplugged. I'm still wondering. This is marvelous!
