Free Music Review: Good Compilation Hit: 4 StarsI have heard most of the songs off the original albums, and alot of the remastering done to these songs is worth the extra price. The mastering really affects the sound of the early songs for instance songs off Ten are pumped up to the point to were you can hear things you couldn't on the original mixes for these songs. I also noticed the stereo range for each song has been widened, and it sounds totally different so much that I don't regret getting this 2 disc set. The mixing guy did take out some cool relay echo effects on the vocals, and a few noisy guitar sounds but that still doesn't damage them to the point of not giving them a listen. I got into this band rather quick seeing as they are better than Nirvana in terms of lyrics. Eddie Vedder makes sense in everything he says, and not to mention he tells some great twisted stories in some songs. Im a fan of grunge and i guess you could call this grunge hell some people call it alternative idk i would say it's grunge and damn good music to put to your ears. All I have to say is save the money don't buy all the albums unless your a huge fan of this band. If your the type of person that is very picky about sound quality or you were a fan from day one get this.
Free Music Review: Pros and Cons. Hit: 3 StarsPros:
- It's a two cd set instead of just the one, which is usually the case for bands that have only been around as long as Pearl Jam.
- Includes all of Pearl Jam's RADIO hit songs.
- Great track mixing. There are the faster songs on one cd, and the slower songs on the other.
- Cool packaging and art.
Cons:
- The music is severely CLIPPED. It hurts my ears to listen. Just imagine for yourself the song "Daughter" on STEROIDS. Ouch. This is becoming a incredibly bad habit for the music industry and its probably only going to get worse. The clipping would have been acceptable if the music was remastered. Instead, it just sounds like it was.
- The songs "ONCE" and "BREATHE" could have easily been replaced with "OCEANS" and "LOVE BOAT CAPTAIN". Both songs were released as SINGLES and are far better and are also known for being fan favorites.
- NO NEW SONGS.
Overall:
Good, but the clipping is just unacceptable, maybe it's acceptable for bands like Megadeth and Metallica, but not Pearl Jam.
Free Music Review: When Pearl Jam cared enough to not phone it in Hit: 5 StarsLoved Pearl Jam for the first 2 or 3 albums, but then they lost it. I could listen to their previous few records once and completely forget about them, with the exception of a standout track once in a great while. Hearing this brings up conflict - love for the truly great songs, and despair for "what could have been", as they've pretty much faded out. The collection makes me forget about the dreck heard in "Riot Act", and is a solid enough compilation to nearly let them off the hook for squandering their talent away.
Free Music Review: It's just a joke people! Hit: 5 StarsYou Pearl Jam fans don't take jokes very well, do you? That guy two reviews below me is clearly JOKING! Claiming that Pearl Jam immatates Creed is an OBVIOUS joke. Pearl Jam debuted in 1991, and Creed debuted in 1997. He didn't actually mean what he said, you people just can't recognize a joke when you read it.
