Three fairly strong Pedro originals ("Slow and Steady Wins the Race" from Winners Never Quit, "Transcontinental" from Achilles' Heel, and "I Am Always the One Who Calls" from Only Reason I Feel Secure) and three marvelous covers; Randy Newman's "Political Science," Cat Power's "Metal Heart," and Radiohead's "Let Down" (here called "Slow Down" for some reason). The originals sound pretty much like the band you know, but the covers reveal Pedro's versiltility-- Barzan manages to make each song sound very much his own while avoiding the flattening that sometimes cripples covers. The Radiohead cover is especailly strong. Pedro the Lion can hardly be called an upbeat band, but there is something inspirational about the way the band handles its material. My favorite Christian band, in a landslide.
