Unfortunately, I never was able to meet my mother's mother. She passed away in 1938 during the TB epidemic in Chicago, when my mother was two years old. I recently found some pictures of my grandmother and she is beautiful and dressed as a women of the early 1930s would be. So I thought of a way I could be more conntected to her by listening to the music she must have heard. This three CD collection does this for me completely. I find myself listening to it over and over. The quality is great, especially when you think about the time it was recorded; no scratch sounds or hissing noises. I found myself recognizing songs I heard as a child here and there, but not knowing the name of the song or who the artist singing it was. Now i know. It was cool to hear the original, "I Only Have Eyes For You," well before The Flamingos sang it their way. The lyrics from "Keep Young and Beautiful" are a hoot, but still touch upon how women look and act today. It was in the Depression that these songs were introduced and you hear the romance and hope for a better future in them. Takes me back to a time I was not born in! One of the best complilations out there. Enjoy.
