Free Music Notes for A Tribal MetamorphosisFree Music Review: Not for everyone, but good in its own right Hit: 4 Stars
Right off, this is not for everyone. It is not your standard bellydance music, no way. However I like it (FWIW), and if you have a wide ranging appreciation for music and experimentation you might too.
This seems to be a cross between bellydance, Download (a Skinny Puppy spinoff), and Morton Subotnick. (If you're unfamiliar with MS, check out Silver Apples of the Sun for 60's experimental tape music.) For this sort of hybrid, it's good, but if you're looking for standard or traditional bellydance you may not be happy here. It is not purely Industrial, but if you like Industrial or Subotnick you will like this.
My only complaint is that the CD is entirely too short, but there you go.
Free Music Review: Suprising and deep Hit: 4 Stars
As a traditional doumbek player, I was suprised by how heavy this album is influenced by traditional forms, even though an amount of liberty is taken in their playing. While the sounds that this artist uses are not normal, his patterning and style are quite traditional. This album has a strangeness I am not used to, but I am finding that I enjoy it more each time I listen to it. It is most interesting.
Free Music Review: NOT traditional tribal music - great for fusion! Hit: 3 Stars
This is not music for ATS, pure tribal (FCBD style) belly dance. Yes that is Rachel Brice on the cover, which should tell you what kind of fusion this is good for (Go watch Rachel dance at www.rachelbrice.com if you haven't seen her yet. Her style is very different than Fat Chance). Pentaphobe composed this music for her. It's good music, interesting and danceable but it is NOT traditional tribal music. It's very modern, club-style music. You can dance to this, but if you're looking for traditional tribal, there are better recordings out there.
Liner note is helpful for describing their intentions with this recording: "Pentaphobe was asked to create music that would complement Rachel Brice's fusion style, and at the same time be appropriate for a performance in an industrial nightclub. A Tribal Metamorphosis is a collection of tunes inspired by traditional Middle Eastern rhythms, and the karass that is the American Tribal Belly Dance community."
Free Music Review: very different Hit: 2 Stars
I love New Age music and World Beat so I figured I'd give this CD a try. There are a couple songs on this CD that I really like that do have sort of a a Middle Eastern flavor, others with a 'temple' sound to them. I like that, believe me, but most of the other songs just remind me of sound effects from my son's
X-Box games. Way too 'out there' and 'spacey' for me. If you're looking for New Age music with somewhat of a Hindi flavor, I would try the groups "Govinda" "Ikarus" "Waterbone" or "Delerium" to name a few.
Free Music Review: not so good... Hit: 2 Stars
I was very disappointed with this c.d. The only good songs on it are the ones that Rachael dances to on the Bellydance Superstars DVD. It's alot of industrial noise with no melody. If you're looking for music to do interperative dance to, check it out. If you're looking for something upbeat and inspiring, you might want to pass.
