Free Music Notes for Perpetual Motion

Free Music Review: Wow
Hit: 5 Stars

Fleck wins 5 stars for his cross over success with "Perpetual Motion."

This is an excellent collection from the eclectic blue grass banjo master. His success at Bach's "Prelude" (#11) is sublime. His attack on Scarlatti's Sonata in C makes him the Sun Tzu of the instrument. Also, his interplay with Evelyn Glennie on the marimba is very appealing. Josua Bell, Gary Hoffman, Chris Thile, John Williams and the other excellent musicians take this to the top.

This is a milestone step forward for music.

Free Music Review: Definitely a Winner
Hit: 5 Stars

It is apparent to my ears why this CD won a Grammy. It takes familiar classical music pieces and puts the distinct Bela Fleck style on them. The pairing of the banjo with different instruments makes this album texturally interesting for the ear and one does not tire of the selections, even if they are familiar. My favorite pairing is the marimba with the banjo. The liner notes are interesting, as is Bela's story on how difficult it was to make the album. It was definitely worth his time and the listener's .

Free Music Review: Extraordinary!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Do not dismiss this extraordinary CD at first glance when you see the word "banjo". Bela Fleck's unbelievable talent has brought this instrument into a whole other realm! The pieces are all classicl adaptations with avaiety of instruments incuding mandolin, guitar, violin, marimba and double bass. Accompanying artists include Edgar Meyer, John Williams and Bryan Sutton. The music can be appreciated on so many levels for its beauty, technicality and uniqeness.Bela Fleck is awesome and this CD is atreasure!!

Free Music Review: Sha-zam! Don't hesitate - fanTAStic!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've long grown a bit tired of the sound of the Flecktones, a fantastic and wonderful and upbeat and original sound that simply wasn't branching out from its perfectly fine and unique space despite a number of albums. And even Bela's solo efforts were stagnating a bit, imo, despite the plethora of studio guests.

But, man oh man, this is something indeed! Really wonderful pieces, presented in creative ways, by some incredible talents. Forgiving some sound quality concerns, this is flawless!

Free Music Review: mind blowing
Hit: 5 Stars

Classical pieces rewritten for Banjo? Even knowing Bela's music from his early days in Newgrass Revival, I felt a bit confused. This music is simply glorious, surprising and mind bending. I have lent it to various friends across all the musical genres, and every one of them have reluctantly returned the CD, saying they did not want to give it back, it was so beautiful. Bela chose his co-musicians for the maximum expertise and knowledge needed to pull this off. And he did, incredibly.
