Free Music Review: beautiful Christmastime music from Perry Como

Perry Como just isn't remembered the way he deserves to be remembered. His voice was as smooth as silk and he never let go of a superfluous note; this album proves Perry had genius! The Christmas songs here are not "in season" as I write this; but the hallmark of high quality holiday music is that it should sound terrific at any time of year--and this music does sound wonderful which is grand. In addition, the artwork is well done.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" has The Ray Charles Singers; but Perry's squarely front and center which is right where he belongs! The percussion enhances the number as well. "Christmas Bells" is beautiful; and Perry's rendition of "White Christmas" is both sensitive and a bit more upbeat than the version by Bing Crosby although it all holds its own very well. Listen too for other solid numbers: there's "Frosty the Snowman" with a playful musical arrangement; "Christ Is Born;" the gorgeous "Do You Hear What I Hear" with brass and strings as Perry aces this with The Ray Charles Singers to back him up; "Silver Bells" and "It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas" with both Perry and this time The Fontaine Sisters performing one of my very favorite secular Christmastime songs; "Winter Wonderland" which is absolutely charming; "There Is No Christmas Like a Home Christmas;" "The Christmas Song" which features Mitchell Ayres & His Orchestra as Perry Como sings; the festive "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town;" the timeless "O Holy Night;" "The Twelve Days of Christmas" which makes good use of the background chorus as Perry sings this seemingly effortlessly; "Some Children See Him," a song I haven't heard too often before although it's very well done when Perry Como performs it along with The Ray Charles Singers; the very charming "Love is a Christmas Rose;" "(There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays," an earlier recording which never sounded better than when Perry Como sang it; "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" which I could never tire of hearing; the huge favorite "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer;" and the CD closes with two beautiful ballads, "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Ave Maria."
Any fan of Perry Como or high quality control holiday music really must get this album to treasure it forever--and at any time of year--Perry's singing of these numbers is all THAT good. Fans of The Ray Charles Singers may consider this a fine album of Christmastime music, too, as they help Perry out on several tracks. We are all better off for Perry's sharing his talent with us--THANK YOU, PERRY COMO !!!
