Free Music Notes for Pop Art: The HitsFree Music Review: If You Have Just Discovered This Gem Pick It Up Hit: 5 Stars
I first fell in love with this CD several years ago when I purchased it via Amazon. The two disc set has now been released in the U.S. U.S. audiences most likely best remember Pet Shop Boys for their mid eighties hits such as "West End Girls," "Opportunities," and "What Have I Done To Deserve This," featuring Dusty Springfield.
PopArt includes not only those early hits, but the songs that further established the hit making duo in the 90's and 00's. All of my favorite Pet Shop Boys songs are here. Disc one is "Pop" and Disc 2 is "Art."
The Pop side seems to have more of the upbeat dance friendly songs like "Suburbia," "Always On My Mind" and "New York City Boy," to name a few. The Art disc includes some of the more introspective songs like "Jealousy," You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk," and "Being Boring."
I absolutely love this CD and have all the songs on my iPod. I love their 90s stuff and 00 stuff as much or more than their 80s stuff. The "new" songs on the CD are "Miracles," and "Flamboyant," which I love.
If you didn't get into their 90s and 00 stuff this disc is a great introduction. Modern favorites of mine include "Red Letter Day," "Single-Bilingual," and "I Get Along."
Free Music Review: Lots of Great Songs And A Few Not So Great Songs Hit: 5 Stars
This CD contains truly great Pet Shop Boys songs, and there are a lot of them. The only downside to the CD is that you have to wade through a few not so great songs. The list of not so great songs is short: 'What have I done to deserve this', 'Home and dry, 'Love Comes Quickly', 'Left to my own devices', and 'Jealousy'. No problem, just push the forward button. The list of great songs is the rest of the CD. I alway's want to crank up the volume for 'Go West', 'It's a sin', 'Opportunities', and 'Single-bilingual'. 'Heart', 'Before', 'I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing', 'I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more', and 'Yesterday when I was mad' are great dance music. I find myself humming 'Can you forgive her', 'I get along', and 'Rent'. 'You only tell me you love when you are drunk' and 'Somewhere' are just great songs. This is a great collection of Pet Shop Boys music. If you only know a few of their songs, I would recommend buying this CD and you will find out how many more songs of theirs you really like.
Free Music Review: Pet Shop Boys Clean Up... Hit: 5 Stars
I am not a huge fan of the Pet Shop Boys by any means... but I do enjoy this double CD set. I suppose the PSB's are a guilty pleasure? Regardless, the music here is fine and a welcome break from my old school ways. As cross over music from my usual classic rock staple based day, I find much to enjoy here. I suppose I would advise anyone looking for a change and or something new, to give these two guys a try.
Just pretend they are Steely Dan's kids and the notes will go down just fine.
Free Music Review: great pop album! Hit: 5 Stars
If you want to listen to a great pop album, this is it. They have been doing this for a while now and are really good at song writing and production. For couple of their songs, I prefer the original mixes compare to the remixes on this cd, but overall, it's still enjoyable to listen to. There are too many good songs to list as my favorites but I will say they are probably better than most pop acts in today's market but don't get the recognition.
Free Music Review: Great collection and 2 new-ish tracks. Hit: 5 Stars
I say new-ish because this compilation was issued quite a while ago and I just picked it up recently. Just one of the greatest bands ever. Always fresh and exciting how they blend pop, rock, orchestra and disco. PSB is not just for gays!
