Free Music Review: If This Were A McCartney Release It Would Be Hailed As A Triumph
Hit: 5 Stars

I've bought Pete Best's titles because I'm a bit of a Beatles completist and because I met him a few years back and he's a very down to earth and charming man.

None of his previous releases could have prepare me for Haymans Green. The song writing, both melodically and lyrically, is first rate. The production is modern while at the same time harkening back to the late 1960's. The songs have great hooks and even better vocal arrangements. And while you can certainly hear a later Beatles influence in the work, more surprising were the times that I heard elements that reminded me of the Kinks, Crowded House or vocally, Jon Anderson of YES. Three weeks after purchasing the disc I still find myself singing many of the songs.

This record deserves airplay and it deserves a Grammy nomination. In the past twenty years, there are few titles that I would say that about, including ones that won Grammys.

Stand out tracks include:

Grey River
Gone
Dream Me Home
Hayman's Green
Broken

Free Music Review: Best release by any ex-Beatle in years, If you are a Beatles fan you'll love it!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I read the one and only negative review here and he or she must have just rushed through listening to it. I liked it right away. After more plays I now love it. I haven't re-played an ex-Beatle recent solo release since "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" by Sir McCartney. My favorite tune is "Gone" it is a uplifting remorseful tune. It has a bit of "Your Bird Can Sing" guitar middle eight to it, but it mostly an original tune by Mr. Best.
If you listen to the early Beatle hits you'll hear that Ringo was paying tribute to Pest by playing those tunes his style, just listen to "Love Me Do", I Saw Her Standing There" and others. He basically has the back beat, beat. His drumming is top notch here.
Unless you are expecting some hip hop stuff, you'll love it. It also has a Babfinger vibe to it. I thought it kind of sounds like a lost Badfinger album(Mr. Joey Molland are you reading this?).
So go buy or pay to download this darn thing NOW!!!!

Free Music Review: One of the Best ex Beatles solo efforts
Hit: 5 Stars

I had no idea that Pete Best had put out this album. It was by chance a couple of months ago that I found out that this album was out there. I though it was going to be a 1960-2 rehash of the rock and roll that the Beatles played in Hamburg and at the Cavern. I was blown away by this album. Yes, its sounds Beatlesque, but whats wrong with that? After all Pete is a former Beatle. I have yearned for that sound from any group but how appropriate that it came from him. This is one of my favorite Beatles solo albums. All of the songs are enjoyable, but my two favorites are Broken and Gone. I loved Ringo but he never put out an album that was great. He did have a few good songs which only when put together as a "Best Of" are worth getting. In John Lennon's case his final album, Double Fantasy, is "ruined" by the screeching Yoko tracks. I feel Haymans Green should have gotten more publicity. I look forward to another Pete Best album.

Free Music Review: Album of the year !!! Bar none !!
Hit: 5 Stars

Holy smokes this is an excellent album!! Get it NOW!! Like others I was expecting an album with cover tunes and a couple of new songs in the vein of Twist and Shout etc. etc. Man, was I wrong!!!! Instead, Pete and the boys have have released what may very well be the CD/album of 2008!! It's an instant classic! It has all the elements that true rock n rollers love... the melodies, the jangly-cool guitars, the great lyrics, the power and the pop!!! It rocks! Who would've thunk it?!?!? Original Beatles drummer Pete, his brother Roag, Phil, Paul, and Tony.."The Pete Best band" has released sheer magic in 2008!!! Get it folks!!! I ain't kiddin' ya! YES....it's THAT great!!! I have listened to it about 15 times since I got it and it gets better and better!!! God I love pure rock and roll!!! A Beatle has released a great piece of music this year, and he ain't named Paul or Ringo....Thank you Pete.

Free Music Review: BEST Bealtes sound-a-like cd I have ever heard!
Hit: 5 Stars

Just listened to Haymans Green and was completely thrilled! Every song had the "'60's" sound to it and yes, hints of The Beatles, but a sound of a group that could have emerged from those British Invasion days as a group with their own unique sound. It's a mix of The Beatles, The Searchers and The Dave Clark Five. The Pete Best Band could have stood on their own against any of these groups and being a DJ for over 35 years, I know there are at least 3 or 4 songs on this cd that could have been top forty hits then and if radio would give them some air play, would be hits today. There's even an excellant instrumental (shades of Dick Dale, The Surfaris and The Tornadoes thrown in)! Excellant cd for a revisit to the good old days but with a fresh new sound of it's own! I've seen The Pete Best Band live before, they are great in person and this cd will be a collector's item in years to come!
