Free Music Review: THE CAT IS NOW A LION
Hit: 4 Stars

One thing about lions, is that they are totally confident in who they are. To me, being an old KISS fan from their first album back in the '70's...now in my mid forties, who has a very strong classical music background in world of opera and symphonic music, as well as a fan of the ELP, Yes, progressive era, just to give a picture of myself... this ablum is truly someone who has matured and decided to make a statement about himself, not ratings or dollars. Hopefully for Peter, he will make a nice dollar off of this album, but I think this was more a statement of his person and faith than anything else. When I first put the album on and listened to the opening line of "One for All"... I immediately felt like I was in a room listening to Peter tell me what was in his heart and in effect, entered into a conversation... My take on this album is that is was not to dazzel fans with musical virtuosity or to re-live old KISS sounding moments... But a very, very personal visit with Peter. Which is what true art should be, a journey into the heart and mind of the artist. Peter is singing and talking from the heart... This is probably why Beth did so well in the mid-seventies... While Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons thought it would be a, "side two throw away" (to quote Paul), it put KISS on the map in a whole new manner... Yet, in an embrionic form we heard a ballad from a young man (Cat), who would eventually get a view of the world that a grown man (Lion) puts forth in One for All. I hope KISS fans will really take a step back and listen to this album, and hear not just nice drumming and good music, but a visit into a man's heart. Something I do not feel I have seen as much with Gene or Paul... For me they are execellent business men who keep pumping the market for a dollar... I would be very interested in who they are as they approach their 60's and take a simmilar journey into their heart. On the other hand, if A**hole, Gene's resent album, is a statement of his heart... Well I am not sure that is a journey I want to take... Need I say more... While that is what captialism is about, it appears to me Peter has grown up in other dimensions. I hope we hear more from Peter... I enjoyed this album, it is musically sound, thoughtful and full of heart. Thanks Pete!

Free Music Review: The Real Peter Criss
Hit: 4 Stars

Kudos to Peter for this new CD.

Remember back in '78 when all the original Kiss members released solo albums at the same time? Ace's rocked, Paul's rocked in a very contemporary way, Gene's was all over the place and Peter's was all R&B and ballads.

Here we are, decades later. Ace has been "working" on the same solo album for twenty years. Paul released a CD that rocked in a very contemporary way and Gene's was all over the place. And Peter? Peter did what Peter seems to do best. He stayed true to himself and to the music that best suits his voice. R&B and ballads. Only this time he included jazz to wonderful effect.

The best songs are "Doesn't Get Better Than This" which comes off as so laid back it's sexy, "What a Difference a Day Makes" and the emotional blues "Heart Behind These Hands." But his cover of the standard "Send in the Clowns" should not be overlooked. And his tribute to Ace Frehley, "Space Ace" is just rife with Bowie-era psychedia and ends the disc with a wonderful jam.

This disc is really good, especially if you enjoy laid back material. In short, if you liked Peter's 1978 solo album, you'll like this one. There are things here and there that might have been tweaked to perfection, but I give it four stars (when it probably deserved three) just for it's unabashed HONESTY. Peter's voice is aging, but in a very leathery Leonard Cohen kind of way that lends credibility to the lyric. Don't expect the screams of yesterday. Don't expect "Baby Driver" or "Dirty Livin'" or even "Beth." This is a grown-up Peter Criss singing blues and jazz and adult contemporary stuff that would be perfectly at home in a bar in New Orleans. This is not stadium rock. This is the real Peter Criss. And it's about time!

Free Music Review: The Catman ROARS back!
Hit: 4 Stars

Before anything else, I'm a KISS fan since I was 9 ...a bit over three decades now, and counting. This is NOT a KISS album; however neither is the current quartet performing under the logo and in the makeup of KISS...KISS is and can ONLY be Ace, Gene, Paul, and Peter...but, I digress. While I can't equal the previous reviewer in breaking this work down academically as he can, I will say I love it, it's very touching, and it's very, VERY "Peter". It contains the moving emotions that he brought to KISS and his subsequent solo work and there's NO mistaking he feels and MEANS what's resonating out over his lips. The title song, for instance...he laments humanity's unwillingness to just pull together and rather resort to war. Not a negative song at all, though, and it's so cool the way he brings in a church choir for back up on that one...his Christian faith is quite evident, though he doesn't preach. Hard to believe he's not a veteran (I am). Tied for my favorite track has to be Faces in the Crowd, in which Peter pours his heart out in humble, loving thanks for the fans who have supported and stood by him through the decades and through the good times and bad. Overall, I love this CD and I can only hope there's more coming down the pike. What I REALLY want is KISS back together where they BELONG...I know, I know.... The only reason I didn't throw him the fifth star is because we had to WAIT so darn long for THIS one!
Seriously, LUV ya, brother!

Free Music Review: A great record
Hit: 4 Stars

It was great finally to hear this record, that I heard a lot about before I got it.
I really like it, but it is not as strong as "Out of control", and it needs many listens, before it catches you.
The titletrack is great. Good guitars, drums and vocals. The production is crystalclear. I also like "Face in the crowd". It has a good and personal lyric.
"Hope" is a good song too. I can't belive, Kiss passed this one over, when they did "Psycho circus". Another wrong decision from Paul and Gene.
In the middle of "One for all", though, it seems there are too many ballads. One more rocking song, and the album would have a better balance. That's why I'm only going to give et five stars. Some of these ballads are good, others are weaker.
I never cared much for covers, and I never liked "What a difference a day makes" but Peters version is okay. The same goes for "Send in the clowns".
The song, that bares Aces name, "Space Ace", has a freaky sound and a lyric, that doesn't mention Ace at all. But the track is okay in itself.
Peter sings great on the record, but as someone pointed out in a reweiw here at Amazon, his voice is not at raspy as it used to be. For some reason.

Free Music Review: Peter, His own Man
Hit: 4 Stars

1st, let's get the creds. I have been a KISS fan since 1975. I love KISS, no doubt, in ALL its forms. That said, I love Pete. I love ACE, Love them all. With that said, I have all the P.C. recording. This is great stuff. Don't think this is KISS stuff, cause it's not, and that is OK. Pete is unique, and that is what should be celebrated about this LP. In fact, I like this CD as well as his past solo stuff. This is true Peter, for that we should celebrate. I love the songs, it relaxes me. I am not one dimensional as some KISS fans are. I appreciate his artistic ability. I have NEVER bought into the crap that Gene pushes out about Pete's lack of abililty. This is one talented human, we are blessed to have an American with such talent. I love you Pete. Keep being true. You and Ace are true. I love you both. I love your music, I love your honesty. Keep it up. Keep it coming, Please. The ORIGINAL Peter Criss fan. Gil.
