Free Music Notes for HitFree Music Review: Great for average music fans, bit too less for advanced fans Hit: 4 Stars
for everyone who want to know Pg music and for everyone who want to have only 1 Peter Gabriel album "Hit" is a great choice.featuring many important songs, few new ones ("Downside up","Growing up",unreleased "Lovetown" it igves a portrait of an amazing artist who creates such a rich, powerfull and gentle in the same time and also catchy music. the only thing that i complain is that "In your eyes" (from "so") is missing here and also some songs from very good although underrated second album "Scratch" (Where is "DIY","On the air" or "Mother of voilence"? these are fantastic songs!)but anyway - it's very good (but maybe not definitive as it says on cover),it fits perfectly the gap between compitations like "Shaking the tree - 16 golden greats" (1978 - 1990) and "Growing up live tour dvd " (many tracks from 1992 - 2003) with nice addition of few new tracks.i am sure it will be a worldwide Hit!
Free Music Review: Almost there, but not quite Hit: 4 Stars
Peter Gabriel is one of my all-time favorite artists and it's usually his slower songs such as "Don't Give Up", "In Your Eyes", "Red Rain" and "Here Comes the Flood" which I listen most often to. I think some of Peter's slower material are arguably the most powerful "ballads" ever written. While I very much agree with most of the songs included in the 2-disc set, it's disappointing that two of my favorites aren't, namely "Washing of the Water" (from "Us") and the hauntingly beautiful "Mercy Street" (from "So"). "Mercy Street" does appear in "Sixteen Golden Greats" and the "Growing Up Tour" DVD, but I think for the person listening to Peter Gabriel for the first time, "Mercy Street" at least, is a must-have. Don't get me wrong, though, this is an excellent introduction to Peter Gabriel and for the price, you can't go wrong.
Free Music Review: Hit! Hit: 4 Stars
Some artists defy classification. Peter Gabriel remains one of the most creative, underated, prolific and powerful performers of our day. Overall I would rate Hit! as a very good sampler of his most popular songs. However, some of the selections from both his second CD and Security seem to be overlooked. For example I would have included No Self Control, Lead a Normal Life, Kiss of Life and Wallflower to the CD. Some other selections such as San Jacinto, Family Snapshot and The Rythm of the Heat could have been easily deleted in my opinion. However, as far as an overll value for the money I would rate Hit! as a five star compilation. For the true Gabriel fan I would recomend purchasing both his second solo and Security CD's. Hit! is a decent enough sampler, but the selection sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. San Jacinto over Kiss of Life? Odviously Gabriel didn't have much say in the selections.
Free Music Review: Great compilations of Peter's greatest hits....but with crappy sound quality Hit: 4 Stars
5 stars for the album/compilation itself
3 stars for the sound quality
average rating becomes 4 stars.
I bought this compilation cause I wanted a decent greatest hits album that had pretty much all the hits and songs that made Peter solo work great. All the songs you want are here but unfortunatly not in a chronological order as one would like.
I also bought this cause I was excited that all the hits have been REMASTERED. Unfortunatly the sound quality is nothing to brag about. I think the original albums where the songs come from had equel or better sound quality than this. If you are looking for a Peter Gabriels hits all in one package.....this is the one to get.....but if you are like me and are looking forward to a better sound quality due to the tracks all being Remastered...then you are going to be disapointed.
Free Music Review: A near perfect 2-disc collection. Hit: 4 Stars
I've been waiting for him to upgrade his "16 Golden Greats" disc for a long time. This has almost everything from that, plus tracks from his last couple albums. Besides the classics "Sledgehammer", "Solsbury Hill", "Shock The Monkey", and "Games Without Frontiers", this includes my favorite "Digging In The Dirt" from the "Us" album, and "Don't Give Up" with "Kate Bush". Also here is "Steam", "More Than This", and "Lovetown" from the "Philidelphia" soundtrack. But the big plus for many is the inclusion of "In Your Eyes", which was not on the last collection. The only song that I really miss is "I Have The Touch". Why it's not here I don't know. Otherwise, this should please old fans and new fans "Big Time".
