Free Music Review: Indescribable - but maybe not for all Peter Gabriel fans
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD years ago after watching the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" and it was one of the best music purchases I ever made. So good in fact, I am willing to pay for it twice - my old copy was stolen after a house break-in. Those considering this album must keep in mind however that this is quite far-remomved from Peter Gabriel's other work, which caters largely to the rock/pop scene (and which I also enjoy). This was a departure for him, and naturally so, as Gabriel was personally invited to write the score by director Martin Scorsese for this film. Personally, I think Gabriel (and his many collaborators) did a magnificent job capturing the essence of the movie and producing some of the most enthralling music that I have had the pleasure of listening to. The music featured here is a mix of Morrocan/Middle Eastern/Indian sounds (perhaps other influences as well), showcasing an impressive array of instruments, both traditional and electronic, seemlessly combined to produce an ethereal and moving musical experience. If you have seen the film, most will agree that it blends remarkably well into the picture. Watching the movie is not a prerequisite for enjoying the beauty of the music on this CD, however - it shines brilliantly on its own.

Free Music Review: The greatest soundtrack ever made.
Hit: 5 Stars

Back then, In 1988, Peter Gabriel was asked to conduct the music to THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST. When Martin Scorsese heard the album, he loved it so well, he considered it "beyond his expectations."

PASSION is not your typical movie score soundtrack: It's more new age meets middle eastern.

The album starts off with "The Feeling Begins", the song that plays during the opening credits. This is a good 80's start to the soundtrack. We lead into "Gethsemane", a flute song. Then, to the very relaxing/techno-souinding "Of These, Hope", then the soft "Lazarus Raised." After that, we have "Of These, Hope Reprise". After the chilling "In Doubt", we lead into "A Different Drum" which is a mind blowing song. "Zaar" comes next, and it literally blows us all away. "Troubled"-->"Open"-->"Before Night Falls" is a perfect transition.

"With This Love" comes next, and then is followed by the "ahead-of-it's-time" "Sandstorm", Then "stigmata", then the ONE NOTE "Passion". Then we have "With This Love - Choir", a choir version of WTL. "Wall Of Breath"->"Promise of Shadows"->"Disturbed"->"It Is Accomplished"->"Bread And Wine" is the best transition.

So buy this if you like soundtracks!

Free Music Review: Haunting & uplifting, this is Peter Gabriel's magnum opus
Hit: 5 Stars

There are many CDs out there that tap into world rythms and create a "fusion" sound which usually ends up as fun music to dance to or as Yanni-esque muzak. Never has a CD been able to stir more emotion in the listener than this one - from beginning to end, "Passion" is such an incredible journey, a trek in both a far-off land and within your own imagination. The way the first track "The Feeling Begins" crescendos, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end upon first listen. Throughout the CD, studio-created sounds combine with Middle Eastern rythms and instruments, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's haunting voice and the Viennese Boys' Choir chilling harmonies to lead you into feelings from anger to disillusionment to disgrace and to redepemption, all without any real lyrics or jarring transitions. The flow of emotion is so subtle that you just keep moving forward with the CD, not paying any attention to track numbers. Gabriel succeeded in creating a soundtrack in which you don't even need to connect it to the movie - I have owned this CD since 1992 and to this day, it is still one of my all-time favorites. Very highly recommended.

Free Music Review: Spectacular composition
Hit: 5 Stars

Mel Gibson's movie "Last Passion of Christ" has been so controversial and has had such large audiences that I could not avoid comparing it with Scorcese's "The Last Temptation of Christ". They are after all different movies, dealing with different issues or stages of Christ's passion. Both movies after all are spectacular and remarkable in their own, wonderful pieces of cinematography. What the "Passion of Christ" does not have is a musical encore produced by Peter Gabriel. Gabriel's soundtrack on "The Last Temptation of Christ" is simply stunning. I've listened to it lately and remember some of the scenes in which some of the compositions appear. You'll notice many of Gabriel's traits in this recording plus a gathering of sounds and instruments from the Middle East. This is what I love about Gabriel, he is an explorer, an andventurer seeking for musicians all around the World to put up impressive compositions. I expect his new soundtrack: "Rabbit Proof Fence" to be another impressive record!

Free Music Review: The Passion of Peter Gabriel Is Eternal
Hit: 5 Stars

Thanks to this, and the movie, The Last Temptation of Christ, you don't have to leave your armchair to get your fill of totally high class Middle Eastern music, or better yet, Peter Gabriel.

This album is his most haunting, prolific and enduring work. In short, this totally took me by surprise when it came out. I now have the enhanced CD and it's third world here when I play it.

The companion CD, Passion Sources, only accents what we have already heard. The music is totally unreal and surreal all at once. It boggles the senses. Peter Gabriel has a very clever knack for using all we possess to make sure we are aware of what we possess.

This is not just for the Peter Gabriel fan, it's for music lovers, period. The rich layers of sound and the souls that pound their lungs into the wind, earth, water, and fire are all here...it's truly music for the soul...and given to a great film to the one who provides the heart to all.

This should be sold as an auction only item really. Only a few can appreciate it's true art.
