Free Music Review: The Passion of Peter Gabriel Is Eternal
Hit: 5 Stars

Thanks to this, and the movie, The Last Tempation of Christ, you don't have to leave your armchair to get your fill of totally high class Middle Eastern music, or better yet, Peter Gabriel.

This album is his most haunting, prolific and enduring work. In short, this totally took me by surprise when it came out. I now have the enhanced CD and it's third world here when I play it.

The companion CD, Passion Sources, only accents what we have already heard. The music is totally unreal and surreal all at once. It boggles the senses. Peter Gabriel has a very clever knack for using all we possess to make sure we are aware of what we possess.

This is not just for the Peter Gabriel fan, it's for music lovers, period. The rich layers of sound and the souls that pound their lungs into the wind, earth, water, and fire are all here...it's truly music for the soul...and given to a great film to the one who provides the heart to all.

This should be sold as an auction only item really. Only a few can appreciate it's true art.

Free Music Review: Something Entirely Different
Hit: 5 Stars

What a spiritual masterpiece from such an unlikely source. Peter Gabriel must have been touched by the divine, because this music reaches out to touch listeners in a deeply moving way even after all these years. This music will not age or fade. It is spiritual without being religious. It trancends cultures and is a piece of art.

Say what you will about the interesting movie that this soundtrack accompanied, but you cannot deny the power of this album. In particular, "With this Love" has a melancholy oboe that pierces you with such bittersweet emotion it is difficult not to feel weepy.

It's so unusual that if often takes time to grow on listeners. I did not really appreciate the layers of this music until after I'd owned the album for a few years. Like unfamiliar spices, its flavor strikes you as something frightening and very different.

But over time, if you let it, the music drives you, and elicits emotions in you, passions, though not necessarily joyful ones. It is deeply contemplative, intense and sober.

Free Music Review: Changed my musical tastes forever
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is really as good as everyone says. For those who are religiously inclined you may even feel God while listening to it. Believe me. Peter Gabriel had to have been inspired by a higher power while making it, bringing together a collection of music backgrounds as never done before, a musical 'patron saint'. In the process he has no doubt made the world a better place, by allowing dissimilar cultures to come together and share a common musical bond. To call it his Opus is a woeful understatement. In a hundred years this album will still be remembered as a defining achievement in music. If only we could bring the world together so well and so often, through music. This was my first foray into world music when I bought this in 1989 while in college. It was my first ever CD and I still have it today. Without a doubt it changed my tastes in music forever. I'm still dumbfounded why this man has not been elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Free Music Review: I think
Hit: 5 Stars

the moment it hits you is different for everyone. I bought this back when it first came out. At first, I didn't like it much at all -- the ambience was different than anything i had previously heard, the percussion complicated, the singing abstruse. I played it as background music, not paying too much attention. And then, maybe 6 months later, driving in my car in heavy traffic, it hit me full force. The rhythms made sense, the vocals achieved a spiritual quality that i could identify with. From the portentious warning of "the feeling begins" to the cathartic release of "a different drum" to the emotional crucible that is "passion" to the forward-looking, "it is accomplished," this album is an awakening. It has become the most important recording in my life. If you don't own it yet, take the small risk and buy it - you will connect with it in ways that you can't imagine. It is only a matter of time.

Free Music Review: 150+ People Can't Be Wrong!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

When you have this many reviews and a 5 star average, you know you're onto something amazing. I ordered this a couple of weeks ago but haven't been able to listen to the entire thing until tonight...Usually, when you have one song on an album that can move you to tears, you know you are listening to something special, but MANY songs on this album did that trick! Even if you have no idea of the emotions conveyed in the movie (which I saw ages ago and have pretty much forgotten), this CD will take you to another world, a world where it doesn't matter the religion you practice, the color of your skin, your pant size, etc. Though I have a monstrous CD collection, I can already see this one becoming something I can never get enough of, on par with other transcendent albums like "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Kind of Blue." Thank you Amazon.com reviewers for giving me yet another example of why life is so wonderful!
