Quite simply one of the best soundtracks ever. A masterpiece of sound. A desert island must have.
For those of you looking for Peter Gabriel pop music, you may want to listen to the samples first because this is very different from his mainstream work. (Though I love his mainstream stuff as well) If you are a fan of such groups as Dead Can Dance, Tangerine Dream, Enigma, or Delerium this will blow you away. It is a masterful blend of middle eastern instrumentation and western rhythm. I envy you if you are going to experience this album for the first time. Though, as the years go by, I continue to enjoy this album more than ever. Even after 20 years, I still find new nuances that I had missed each time I listen to it. It is a powerful construction of sound that is deeply, deeply moving. I highly suggest a candlelit room and a bottle of you favorite wine for your complete enjoyment of this entrancing piece.
Free Music Review: Powerful and Timeless Soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
I was a Peter Gabriel fan for years prior to the release of "Passion," but the arrival of this epic soundtrack was as close to a religious experience for me as an album can get. For years now, it has been the background to many of the most powerful and emotional moments in my memory. THE BEST music for... well, anything intimate or intense. For zoning out and letting your mind fly where it will. For curling up in a ball in the corner and allowing the music to give voice to your own pain and resurrection.
My five year old loves "Passion." I love how he hears something arresting in the middle of a track and will say "Oooh, mommy! Go back, go back quickly! Did you hear that?" His face just gets so thoughtful, and you can see the emotions of the music play over his face. It brings me such joy that we share this together. Thanks again, Peter Gabriel!
Free Music Review: Beautiful soundtrack! Hit: 5 Stars
Passion is arguably my favorite soundtrack of all time by anyone. Being the soundtrack to the "LAST Temptation of Christ" which I've never seen, this is a really powerful, and extremely haunting soundtrack and one of the greatest soundtracks ever made.
This is a far cry from any of Gabriel's standard studio albums. What we get here is a colorful palette of many ancient instrumental sounds ranging from Northern Africa to the Middle East and all the way as far as India and Pakistan. It is amazing to listen.
"Hope of These" is my favorite song having a really intense hazy mood and "Disturbed" scared the daylights out of me with it's discordant melody and fast beats. The last two songs "It is Accomplished" and "Bread and Wine" however are beautiful and emotionally close out this soundtrack.
Highly Recommended.

I'll beg to differ from the review of the music fan from india who says that this is "masala" music that eastern musicians played on and peter gabriel got the credit for. if the fan has read the liner notes for the cd, he/she will know that all credits have been duly acknowledged. much more importantly, i suggest that the fan listen to the album "Passion sources" composed by the very same ensemble of musician and see for himself/herself how much the music lacks in structure and coherence compared to passion soundtrack. all trained musicians can play good music, it requires a visionary like gabriel to give it the proper structure. and i think he should be given credit for being the ambassador of world music and bring it to the notice of western ears in such a glorious fashion.
Free Music Review: This is really Hit: 5 Stars
Dark and sad and a touch hopefull Passion shows more then ever why Peter Gabriel has always been a creative musical force. Gabriels synths not only hold most of the songs together but Gabrial plays more instruments then on his studio albums (synths, percussion, shakers, bass, whistle, flutes, surdu, doholla, counterbass, thats a dozen instruments!) and all with class. Of cource the musicians and vocalists Gabriel has selected are all stunning (Gabriel does some nice wordless singing himself) but they are merely performing his visionary compositions and arrangements. This is very much Gabriels show all the way and this is really his best soundtrack album.
