Free Music Review: PHAT SLABS OF UNCUT SYNTH FUNK!

Fans of old school funk from the late 70's will have a fill day fillin' the dancefloors with this baby. This is the first in the line of phat trax series to be released by Rhino in the mid 90's. With so many west coast rappers borrowing bit and pieces of these grooves to rap over, rhino released this series to cash in on the trend. In spite of its capitalist motive, this music is greasy enough to knock you on the floor and have your feet stuck to the floor as long as its playin'. All seven volumes would be an excellent companion to "What it is: Rare Soul and Funky Grooves 1969-77" boxset released by Rhino last year.
We all know we can't go wrong with the 15 minute epic "Knee Deep", The Jamiacan/Queens funk anthem "Funkin for Jamaica (N.Y.)", and the gut rock funk of "Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic". There's some rare gems thrown in for good measure like "Peanut Butter" and "Wide Receiver". These tracks alone is a ideal playlist that will make any DJ at a oldies radio station envious.
The best part is that this is not even the best volume in the series but it can still funk you out! Stay tuned to the next round of reviews. Until then keep the funk alive and let it glide! I'm out.
