Free Music Review: Should've been titled Darlene Love's Treasury Of Hits

I received this boxed set as a Christmas gift years ago, but am just now getting around to reviewing it because I have read Darlene Love's new biography. Although I knew she had sung mostly background for Phil Spector's stable of artists, I never realized she carried EVERYONE who recorded for him. Darlene WAS the Crystals. She WAS Bobby Soxx & The Blue Jeans. Because she was the only one to stand up to Spector's tirades and demands, he treated her like dirt and thus she never had the career she really deserved. Darlene Love is one of the premiere voices of rock and roll, nearly every American Top 40 hit in the early to late 60's had Darlene on it in some capacity. Many owe their successful hits to her. Anyway, Back To Mono is one of the best boxed sets ever released, because let's face it, Phil Spector was a mad genius but the end results were these songs, mostly hits and a few misses. A must for any true fan of rock and pop music, girl groups or otherwise. THANK YOU DARLENE LOVE, what would music be without you?!
