Free Music Notes for Philadelphia Chickens (Sandra Boynton's Imaginary Musical Revue)

Free Music Review: This CD is awesome, worth every penny
Hit: 5 Stars

I am amazed at some of the reviews. I love this cd and my kids love it too. The more I listen to it the more I love it. I listen to this almost every single day and dance around the house with the kids. "Please, can I keep it" has got to be one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. I love "Snuggle Puppy", it is adorable. "Cows", "Snoozers", "BusyBusyBusy","Nobody Understands Me", and "Those Dinosaur Blues" are among my favorites. My kids love " Philidelphia Chickens", "The Intermission Song", and "Belly Button". Seriously, I really can't think of any song on this albumn that I hate or even dislike. Also having all these different stars sing the songs makes the cd all that more enjoyable and fun. You just can't get better than this.
For those who have only listened to it once and didn't like it, I suggest popping it back in the cd player and giving it another try. The more you listen, the more you will grow to appreciate it.

Free Music Review: Fun for adults too
Hit: 5 Stars

I think I have never laughed out loud listening to a CD before. But I did. When I listened to the intermission song by Aaaardvarks. That's where the meaning of the subtext 'imaginary musical revue' really hit me. I have no children, I am not even a US citizen and had never heard of Sandra Boynton before. I was looking for Scott Bakula CD's when this CD popped up. I read so many positive reviews that I bought a copy for myself. I just love the music, the various performers and the very funny, clever lyrics of this CD. The musical styles, different performances and some very good singing and some less good singing by the performers (btw Bakula was a Tony nominated musical theatre singer before he was a well known actor as you probably know) ensure that I will not easily bore of this CD. Oh, I am not 43 (of course not and I will now look for someone 43 years old and test this CD on that person).

Free Music Review: Buy it for "the kids" (wink, wink)
Hit: 5 Stars

My sister and my wife both had their first babies within 8 weeks of each other last year. We are from Philadelphia, so this caught my sister's attention. The songs are fresh, contemporary and hip for children's fare. Adults can appreciate homage to various music styles and hearing celebs get their kiddy-groove on. The artwork and theme (a fictional musical stage show) lend a lot of character and personality to the lyrics and "performers" (cows, aardvarks, dinosaurs, etc.). The actual singers are typically great in their roles. A favorite of ours is Kevin Kline singing BusyBusyBusy in the mode of ...Modern Major General... A theme all of us 30-something two-income families can relate to. Just enough of a tweak about our hectic lifestyle to cause a reflective pause. Everyone should stop and create the opportunity to enjoy this marvelous little frivolity with their kid(s) and partner.

Free Music Review: This disc caught me off guard -- it's a little masterpiece!
Hit: 5 Stars

This disc is absolutely fantastic. My 5-year-old son received it for his birthday and he instantly fell in love with it, as did his mother and myself (and I'm sure his 9-month-old brother will adore it as well). From the very first sentence of the disc ("Cows...we're remarkable cows.") to the instrumental at the very end, the lyrics are always playful and often downright hilarious. Musically it runs the gamut from Broadway-type tunes to countryesque tunes to bluesy tunes to almost a rap ("Belly Button", my personal favorite). You don't get any of the stereotypically "kiddie"-sounding songs; I think Sandra Boynton respects the intellect of kids, so she and Michael Ford came up with songs that are fun for kids to listen to yet sophisticated enough for adults to totally dig. I can't recommend this disc enough. (And you MUST hear Meryl Streep's song -- she's tremendous.)

Free Music Review: ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! (for all ages)
Hit: 5 Stars

I have given this cd/book/music to many kids and adults, including my mom. I've also kept it for myself! The songs are so fun and funny, they crack you up. They also introduce kids to all types of music, from blues to jazz to country to everything. The book itself is great, and I read stories to my grandson and nieces from it. And this is the best bargain in the business: You get the cd with 19 songs, the hard cover book with illustrations and words to each (which we enjoy as stories), and the sheet music for piano and additional lyrics in the back. The favorite of one of my nieces is "Please can I keep it -- it followed me home." The other niece loves "Those Dinosaur Blues," and MY favorite (or one of them) is "Be Like a Duck." But then the song by aardvarks pretending to be cows is charming, too. You just can't go wrong. BUY THIS!
