And then i heard track one.

the album opens up with a dramatic harmonica solo in 12/4 time to the familiar strains of Astronomy Dominie. As a pink floyd purist, i had a little bit of trouble listening to my favorite floyd song without syd barret's schizophrenic guitar noises, but i soon grew to like the lightning quick fingerpicking of one Jebediah Greenman on his trusty old martin twelve string acoustic. when the washboard and jugs came in right in time with Beuford Peach's breathtaking vocals, i was sold. believe me: you will never have an experience as amazing as listening to Peach intone these words with a heavy appalachien twang: "lime and limpid green/a second scene/the fights between the blue you once knew/floating down the sound resounds/around the icy waters underground" and "Jupiter, Saturn, Oberon, Miranda, and Titania/Neptune, Titan, stars can frighten/me!" it gave me chills as i've never felt since i played the live version of said song off of ummagumma on my old turntable as i floated with floyd on acid back in the sixties.

the rest of the album is equally impressive. i have found myself to be a big time bluegrass fan now, thanks to the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys and company. word of advice: buy anything Jebediah Greenman has put out on his own; your ears will thank you.

my one complaint is that there isnt a cover of 'echoes' or 'shine on you crazy diamond'. i can picture the band on the back porch with home brewed beer jamming to the cosmic stratosphere as the piper at the gates of dawn grooves with a bong and plays his flute or pipe or whatever like a groovy bluebird.

In conclusion, buy this album. You will later thank me.
